Dorel Juvenile Group Issues Statement Regarding the 2009 Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) Booster Seat Report
Foxborough, MA (December 22, 2009) -- Safety is Dorel Juvenile Group’s top priority and our main focus is to make sure all of our Car Seats meet or exceed government crash test regulations and perform well in ...actual use, which they do.
As part of our continuous process of developing and improving our car seats, we work with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and other agencies and use their criteria as a component of our new product design.
DJG has also conducted hundreds of crash tests to ensure the crash worthiness of our child restraint seats. According to the test report that we have seen, the IIHS’s test simulates only one size child in one position. Dorel Juvenile Group tests the fit of the seats with children of different weights and sizes in different vehicle types to evaluate real life fit and to ensure we make a safe product to protect children. In addition, the IIHS has not performed any crash testing to confirm the fit recommendations are supported by performance criteria.
Booster seats are an effective restraint and they reduce the risk of injury and the risk of fatality.
Kids come in all sizes and we encourage parents buying a new booster seat to try out different options and choose the one that is the best fit for their child and their vehicle. Dorel Juvenile Group recommends placing your child in an age/weight/height-appropriate car seat to enhance your child’s safety whenever they are riding in a motor vehicle.
For more information about Dorel Juvenile Group car seats, parents can visit our web site and use our online car seat selector tool at http://www.safety1st.com/carseat_selecto r/ to help them as part of the process to select the best fit and type of car seat for their child.

Update: A message from Dorel Juvenile Group to parents and caregivers regarding the recent infant child restraint/carrier voluntary recall: The Infant Child Restraint is safe for use in a vehicle as it meets and exceeds all crash safety standards put forth by the US government. The recall affects only the handle portio...n of the infant child restraint /carrier. It does not affect the crash worthiness of the infant child restraint/carrier. Please continue to use the infant child restraint/carrier in your vehicle as it does meet and exceed all crash safety standards put forth by the US Government.
As parents ourselves, we understand your concern about anything potentially involving your child’s safety. On Friday, December 18, 2009, Dorel Juvenile Group announced a voluntary safety recall in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) for certain infant child restraints/carriers sold with Safety 1st®, Cosco, Eddie Bauer® and Disney® branded travel systems.
Models affected were manufactured January 6, 2008 through April 6, 2009 and can be found on the safety notice shown below.
DJG reassures parents and caregivers that the infant child restraint/carrier is safe for travel in the car, and that this recall ONLY involves the handle portion of the carrier. The stroller portion of the travel system is also safe for continued use. DJG is urging parents to obtain the fix kit as soon as possible for the handle defect, but to feel confident in their continued use of the infant car seat in their vehicle. The kit may be obtained by calling (866) 762-3316 or by visiting our website: http://www.djgusa.com/usa/eng/Safety-Not ices
At Dorel Juvenile Group, our foremost objective is to maintain open and transparent communication with our consumers. If you think your car seat model may be affected, please call us at (866) 762-3316 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or visit http://www.djgusa.com/usa/eng/Safety-Not ices for more information.

Lynnette I have a Sound n' Lights Activity Walker. The battery is pretty much dead =(. I just read in the instructions that the batteries in the Activity Tray are NOT replaceable. When this thing was being designed why would it be designed to NOT replace the batteries??? So my second child gets to use it without all the lights & sounds - so not fun.
