Coming Humanitarian Crises
A lecture by Dr. Frederick ("Skip") Burkle
expert on international emergency and
disaster relief, Doctor of Emergency Medicine,
Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Tropical Medicine,
Public Health.

Dr. Burkle was the senior medical of...ficer on the
disaster assistance response team for USAID in
the lead-up to the war in Iraq in 2003. He has
consulted on many humanitarian emergencies
and large-scale disasters in Asia, Africa, and
Eastern Europe. An alumnus of Saint Michael's
College, Dr. Burkle is currently a senior scholar
and scientist at Johns Hopkins University and
senior fellow at the Harvard School of Public Health.
Campus Roundtables:
Dr. Burkle will speak on "A Liberal Arts Education
and Careers in Global Justice" in the Hoehl Welcome
Center from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday,
November 18, and in the Peace and Justice
FOCUS series on "The Human Cost of War:
Lessons from Iraq" from 11:45 - 1:00 p.m. on
Thursday, November 19 in the Farrell Room.
