Saro-Gem The cases are generally milled out of INOX 316L (extra low carbon, commonly referred to stainless steel, having 11% chromium content by mass and being highly resistant to corrosion) - in this example the block shown is 2.6 lbs - diameter 55mm & 65mm height. The band holders are "missing" - to mill them in the same set-...up as the case is not possible. They are processed separately, soldered and then baked to the case afterward. The center deco ring as well as the case back are made of the same steel - any of these parts are then either pvd processed (black or gold, @ 10 microns), brushed or sand blasted depending on the variant. Case parts in solid Gold (white or yellow) as well as Platinum are available as well.

Saro-Gem A close-up of the milled case and case back. The push buttons are screwed in, other methods include the use of self-lock nuts which we don't use. We add rubber gaskets on both the stem (2) as well as the inside of the pusher. The center crown stem uses dual gasket sealing too. Unlike manufacturers which put the gasket ...in the crown itself - gaskets on the stem will not see wear due to a crown being screwed down. From a service aspect, the gaskets are quick to be replaced.

Saro-Gem This close-up shows the dial post deposition of the gold-dust and pre application of the dial printing and stone setting. Initially, the dial does not spot the final color, in this case the dark blue as shown to the left but more of a black surface. The flash of the camera makes this look like a copper tone. The final ...dial reveals the details nicely. No anti glare process is used on the sapphire glass - 1st, we experienced that the glass becomes brittle, secondly the light would not reflect the way intended to articulate the diamonds and gold-dust feature.

Saro-Gem This watch belongs to Thomas Huggler and was purchased over 25 years ago. It's been worn on a daily basis ever since and it still looks like it was just made.

It also points out the challenge of photographing these Sapphire watches.
