Bruce Jensen

Bruce Jensen I proposed to my wife at Lodgepole - and a year later, it was where I took my parents to visit on the days leading up to our wedding. Back then, there were still little cabins in the Giant Forest. While I am glad they are gone, I still sort of miss them...some important memories dimmed **just a little bit** when they were removed.

Naked peaks, sheltered valleys, snowfields, towering trees, and alpine meadows, make up the varied landscape of Sequoia National Park in California.

The weather is getting chilly! They are forecasting a 50% chance of rain/snow on Friday so definitely bring snow chains with you as they could be required at any time. As far as I know there's no problem with hiking in the Tokopa valley area but it would be a good idea to double-check with a ranger before you head out.

sequoia national park Ever heard of the Leonid meteor shower? We won't be able to see the peak of the shower here in North America, but optimal viewing conditions will be on Tuesday November 17 between 2am and 4am. Sky-watchers are advised to venture out away from bright city lights and there's no better place for that than Sequoia National Park!

It's been getting up into the 60's during the day but gets pretty chilly after the sun goes down. I would suggest dressing in layers and bring some warm clothes for the night time. I usually recommend the Congress Trail, the trail to the top of Moro Rock, and Crescent Meadow loop trail.

As far as a place to stay, Wuksachi Lodge would be my ... See Morerecommendation. It is right in the heart of the park and very modern. They just renovated their guest rooms and they're the only place I know of in the area that has television, refrigerators, etc in the rooms. Rates should be pretty low at this time of year as well.

Well, there's no snow just yet but it should be right around the corner. If Santa doesn't deliver, the Sequoia Field Institute offers free guided snowshoe hikes on weekends during the winter months.
