The Rt. Rev. J. Neil Alexander, Bishop of the Diocese of Atlanta, was elected the 23rd Chancellor of the University of the South at a meeting today of the university's Board of Trustees. Alexander succeeds the Rt. Rev. Henry N. Parsley Jr., who had served as Chancellor since May 2003.

The Sewanee crew team competed this weekend in the very demanding 5,000-meter Chattanooga Collegiate Head Race. In their first regatta of the year, the Sewanee team out-performed boats from much larger schools, including Georgia, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, and Georgia Tech.

Sewanee's Board of Trustees today welcomed 24 new trustees elected by the 28 owning dioceses, seated two new trustees from the continuing Diocese of Ft. Worth (Texas), and elected eight new trustees from the University alumni, students, and faculty.
