Hello guys. I am part of a team of students that is developing a product to increase driving safety, and we could use your help with a product survey. The product increases drivers' safety by both alerting drivers of tailgating, as well as possibly providing safe drivers with some insurance benefits. Teen Driver Safety Any South Dakotans out there? It's National Teen Driver Safety Week. See what South Dakota is doing to keep people safe on the roads.
The number one threat to the life of a teenager in South Dakota, and in the United States, is a motor vehicle crash. States with strong GDL laws experience a reduction in the number of crashes involving teen drivers by up to 40 percent according to the National Safety Council. According to the NHTSA, 54 percent ...of passenger vehicle occupants killed in traffic crashes were not wearing seat belts in 2007. Primary seat belt enforcement has been proven effective; drastically increasing seat belts usage in many states. Booster seats reduce the risk of injury by 59 percent in children ages four through seven, as compared to using seat belts alone. An estimated 19 percent of children who should be riding in a booster seat are riding completely unrestrained, according to the NHTSA. The statistics are striking. In January 2009, South Dakota was listed as one of 10 states most lacking in traffic safety laws in US according to the Advocates for Highway & Auto Safety.
