Sigma Chi was founded on June 28, 1855 at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, as a literary society by seven men, aged 14 to 25. The Fraternity's primary purpose, they believed, was to appreciate, develop and promote the core values of friendship, justice and learning.
Today, our mission is to develop values-based leaders committed to the betterment of character, campus and community. Sigma Chi's vision is to become the preeminent collegiate leadership development organization—aligned, focused and living our core values.
As of September 2008, the Fraternity has 223 active collegiate chapters, 132 alumni chapters, and 222,105 living members worldwide.
