Photo: Pretty Frog, But Don’t Touch! The poison dart frog, above, is found in the Amazon rainforests of Central and South America. Sure, it’s pretty, but this little frog who measures between less than an inch and two inches can actually take down a small animal with its powerful toxin. What’s your favorite Amazonian a...nimal?

Video: Optical Illusions at the Parthenon. Who knew? Ancient Greek architects might have been on to something when they built the Parthenon with subtle curves and without right angles. Some scholars argue that these features were intended to counter the brain’s tendency to see optical illusions. What did you think of ...this video? Do you know of other architects using optical illusions? http://www.smithsonianjourneys.org/blog/blog/2009/10/22/video-optical-illusions-at-the-parthenon/Read More

It appears to me to be someone's opinion of what they "might have been doing,"...then again, they might simply have liked that type of design, and not been trying to create an illusion at all.

After walking twice up to the Parthanon and seeing it in all its wonder, this does make me want to look further into the illusions the Greek architects used at that early an era.

World Heritage: China’s Great Wall. My first glimpse of the Great Wall was through a chilly gray mist early one fall morning. Standing on the ramparts gazing at the vast expanse of parched land beyond, it was easy to imagine the concern of Chinese rulers with destruction of their sophisticated culture by hordes of mou...nted warriors they regarded as barbarians. http://www.smithsonianjourneys.org/blog/blog/2009/10/20/world-heritage-chinas-great-wall/Read More
