My son, who was knee-high at the time, broke away from me and was scooting through a department store -- before I caught up with him, he collided with a clerk who ended up wind-milling above him precariously, finally lost his balance and collapsed on my naughty child. Fortunately no one was hurt, the clerk forgave us, and from then on I kept him in... See More the wagon wherever I shopped 'til he totally outgrew it. I see so many kids nowadays that should be confined to wagons, but aren't. I am as careful at department store intersections as I am in traffic . . . hafta be.

I was at the jewelry counter at our local Nieman Marcus and they had Rolex Submariners at full retail price but with free gift wrapping and gift cards. I only needed one watch but I bought two because of the special.

There was actually lots of "technology" available, but it was different from modern over-powered machines.

We all know what helped bring down Napoleon's army (lead in cans). Loraine, you pose a likely big contributor, as Egyptians ( and most other cultures in the ancient world in the Mediterranean area) drank copious amounts of wine. Perhaps beer (consumed in ancient Egypt and elsewhere) had high levels of lead too.
