This week marks the 87th year of National Fire Prevention Week, although it has been celebrated as a single-day holiday for many more years than that. Across Texas, fire departments will be heading out into communities this week trying to teach citizens t

Fire is only good if it is controlled. Most of those kinds of vegetation that "re-grows" is the kind that likes to catastrophically burn (ie Knobcone and lodgepole pines). When a "natural" fire is ignited in an "unnatural" forest, you end up with an "unnatural" fire, which burns "unnaturally" hot.

The occurances, intensity and importance of lightning fires has been grossly overestimated by eco's who ignore natural history. When Indians managed their forests, there was very little fuels to burn when lightning strikes. Today's forests have up to 1000 more trees per acre than was here before the white man came west. Species composition has also... Read More been radically changed to favor the most flammable trees.

Yes, Kimberlee, many of the biggest fires have occurred during windy and changable fall conditions. Sorry to say this but, Tahoe has ignored their Angora Fire wakeup call. Most people think that Tahoe is doing "just fine" and that "wildfires are beneficial".

Someday, people will clamor for "restoration" but, for now, catastrophic wildfires are embraced and people who's houses burn down are blamed for living next to the National Forest.

To the one that smokes and throws his butts on the ground-I hope you're proud of yourself! If it ever starts a fire you best hope you don''t get caught because it will cost you a lot of $$$$$$$. That remark is not cute and it's not funny if that's what you intended it to be.

A prolonged drought, which is drying up vegetation and fueling a seemingly endless fire that has burned more than 250 square miles of Los Angeles County, could be the start of a fall siege in Southern California.

This is how you stop it. Talk about the rain of ICE BOMBS to destroy WILDFIRES! Ice bombs are the explosive liquid nitrogen dispersal of potassium phosphate. It's hitting the base of the fire, where it counts.

Smokey, I have loved you all my life- I'm a year younger than you. I have a hat covered with your pins, it's so heavy the wind never takes it off my head! You made me so happy when you waved to me at your birthday parade in Mammoth Lakes, CA this summer. (My husband thinks I'm crazy.)
