Susan Reed sUSAN Cardiff-Reed. I graduated from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 95 and have been working in the field of addictions and mental health as well as child protection. I'd love to hear more from the people in my profession.

Kelly Lowe Can anyone recommend to me any good study materials for the licensure exam for Master's level social workers. I am taking it soon and could use all the help I can get.

Jennifer P I think everyone needs good health care. Right now the low-income aren't getting the care they should....the rich are getting so much better quality care. Its a big problem and needs to be solved quickly.

Anthony I'm displeased that Obama is completely ignoring the single-payer option. He won't even allow it into the discussion. We need to make our voices heard, as the NASW supports this and it is the best option. Our representatives work for us, we need to make them do the right thing.

National Association of Social Workers NASW wishes you a Great 4th of July weekend.

Andrea
Hi. I am currently getting my MSW at San Jose State University. I am interning with a company that bridges the gap between Non-Profit Organizations and technology by building their websites at no cost. We recently received special funding to work specifically with Non-Profit Organizations.
We fundamentally believe you should be able to build and host your website without paying for a designer, a suite of software or a hosting company. I would love to hear from you if you are an NPO looking to update your website or if you are just getting started!

Roselene Dalanhese I am an LCSW and have been in private practice for a month now. I see on average about 20 clients a week love what I am do. It is so much better to make your own schedule and have control of your time. The only thing I miss is the network with other collegues. I have considered opening a clinic with two other therapists but then I would lose a lot of my autonomy. Conversaly, in order to become dv certified, I need to do it as an agency and not only as an individual. I practice in Salt Lake City, UT.

Debra
Hi,
I've been a social worker since forever; worked in child abuse area, mental health...and private practice. loved it!

Janet Hello all, I am from NY and I recived my MSW a year ago and am currently attempting to study for the LMSW exam. I have been in the field for nine years and worked with several populations such as mental health, geriatric, homeless, and now families and children.
Britta at 2:20pm June 29
That's great you can get your license in only one year. Here in IN, we have to do two years post graduate hours. Good luck!

National Association of Social Workers Income-Based Repayment (IBR) is a new way to make your federal student loan payments more manageable starting July 1, 2009. And if you're a teacher or work in government or at a nonprofit (501(c)(3)) organization, you might qualify for a new type of public service loan forgiveness after 10 years of eligible payments and employment.

Great news especially for social workers who work in hard hit economic areas, non-profits, gov. agencies, etc.

National Association of Social Workers Wow, over 4000 social workers have joined us here on Facebook. Welcome to all the new fans!!!

Melissa Brown Good morning, all. I'm a 1998 graduate of Syracuse University's School of Social Work. Have been a psychiatric social worker working primarily with kids and their families in New York and now with all populations in Florida. Namaste.

Linda Pusateri Hi, all social workers out there...I am a returning to practice social worker, LCSW with 15 years of practice herstory. I have experience in adoption studies, work with the mental health population, children, adolescent, and adults. I have worked contractual work over the past few years due to ongoing home responsibilities, personal illness, and family illness...time to go back with both feet and a bit more. Sounds silly, but I am attempting to go into "Private Practice". Know I have given a lot of advice and worked through with many individuals as to their development of autonomy in life. Now I turn to my peers: how do I go about ascertaining private practice as an eventual primary work setting. I would like to research and write theory and practice I have collected over the years. I live in Austin, TX now, am working on ascertaining my license as an alcohol and drug counselor to further expand my areas of treatment. I would like to work as part of a team, but private business?

Haley Stokols Hi everyone! I am an incoming MSW student at USC (2009). Looking forward to the future!

Elizabeth A. Boeck
Hello Everyone,
Although I have been a social worker since 1997 I am new to facebook. I was a child welfare specialist after earning my Masters Degree from UW-Wisconsin in 1999 and then went on to become a licensed clinical social worker. In the past year I opened a Holistic Healing Center called the Healing Space on Main. It is the result of many years of planning and dreaming about bringing different healing modalties together in one place. We have acupuncture, aromatherapy, energy healers, massage, yoga, meditation and more.
It's been a great adventure to become a business owner as well as continue my own counseling practice within this context.
I'd love to hear from other practitioners who are interested in holistic wellness.

Sandra Rhodes Hi everyone! This is my last year of graduate school at Fordham University. I have been in this field for over twenty years and decided I needed to take the next step. I love the work I do working with families and children, but in order to advance I needed to further my education, so here I am.

Kesia Vazquez Hello everyone!! I'm a new BSW student @ Florida International University.. looking forward to enter the advance standing program for my MSW.. and right after I plan to sit for my LCSW exam :)

Angel Purcell Hi everyone! I'm a 2009 MSW graduate from Fordham University and 2008 BSW student from Marist College. I am also an Iraq veteran- not sure how many else of you are as well out there, but ensure that future veterans are aware of the Post 9/11 GI Bill, as well as the "Yellow Ribbon Program", this is providing veterans with the opportunity to attend colleges, private colleges as well at a more affordable rate. Ask me for info, i'll be happy to help!

Not sure how many social work students are aware of this, but I was quite happy to find it. Check out the video for an easier to understand version...I'm sure quite a few of us could use this help. This is the new Federally funded student loan repayment program.

NASW’s brief was cited by the Supreme Court in the decision on Safford Unified School District v. Redding. “Savana’s subjective expectation of privacy against such a search is inherent in her account of it as embarrassing, frightening, and humiliating...

Shekina at 6:22pm June 26
The case recognizes the civil rights and the humanity of our youth and reinforces legal limits that must be observe in how we handle students in the school community even under questionable circumstances. This young should have never been subjected to a strip search. It is distrubing that it took the Supreme Court having to declare.
