Sandy

Sandy I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in '99. I've been working in several homes/programs. I spent several years in case management with adults with mental health diagnoses; MH and disabilities diagnoses; but most of my time has been with the clientele within their home, living as independently as t...hey can be with the needed support system.

Kay, you cannot just be a Social Worker in WA state. I have a Master's in Psychology and I cannot get any Social Work jobs even before the economy went in the toilet. That is why I am going back to school. Personally, I could do a lot of these jobs I see with my degree, but it is changing here. I can't comment on other states, but in WA you have to have an MSW.

Bachelors level SW positions can be gotten with other degrees, depending on the agency - it has nothing to do with state. I agree with Kay, though, - its annoying to see non swers holding sw positions when sw degree holder's are looking for jobs (in paricular, CW investigators hold business or education degrees, and three months of training some ... See Morehow qualifies them to do investigations of child abuse - that does not resonate with me at all).
In terms of psychology degree holders, I don't see that being a hindrance if you are looking for bachelors level positions (obviously it would be for MSW positions). Keep in mind that they are different perspectives and should not be treated by agencies as being the same or equal to a sw degree - different things are covered, different approaches, etc.
