Angela Alley Winders

Angela Alley Winders I am so excited. I ordered P4/5 with Readers K yesterday for my 4yo daughter! We homeschooled our oldest daughter for 3 years (2 with Sonlight) and now she's back in public school (8th grade), but I really want to homeschool my youngest 2 daughters from day 1 and I can't wait to "officially" start Sonlight with my middle daughter!!!!!

Carol Cowan

Carol Cowan Hi, Sonlighters from a few years ago will remember me as Carol in NZ. My kids have finished homeschooling now, so I am waiting for the next generation to teach. I am still reading my way through Sonlight books I didn't get around to reading when the kids were home.

I loved reading the books even more than my daughter did. Now that she's back in public school, I've noticed her reading a few of the books we didn't get to in Core 6. That makes me very happy!

Last night one of my friends mentioned that the director of Planned Parenthood had resigned and was now working for the Coalition for Life."Whoa! That's crazy," I said. And a little misleading.Turns out that it was a director of an abortion clinic in Texas.Still... it's interesting...

Here is Fox news' article - http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,571215,00.html
Not sure why this story is slow to get around. I'm surprised we aren't hearing more just because of some of the allegations that are flying. Thanks for posting the blog to get a "view from the other side." Makes it worth remembering we don't always know the whole story. I hope God uses it, which ever way it turns out.

The above link won't work and I've tried pasting it in several more times. You can click on it to get to Fox's website then type "Planned Parenthood quits" in their search box and this will be the first story in the results.

My daughters 6 and 3 spent about an hour having a party for out 8 month old since she got her first tooth. They had music, a guitar made out of a hanger and pony tail holder and a drum. They made up songs about getting teeth and growing up. They presented her with toys wrapped in small blankets. They had a blast and the baby loved it. LOL

When the girls first got here a few weeks ago, they weren't particularly interested in listening to books. When offered, they politely declined. They did, however, beg for the same story to be read to them again when it was bedtime...

My girls love to listen to stories but I was so bad about reading to them regularly. I would sit to read and think about all the stuff I needed to get done around the house. But since we have started Sonlight, I've learned to relax and enjoy the moment. We now read beyond what Sonight schedules, supplementing with other books. Great Fun!

Thank you all for your encouragement. There have been some days where I really haven't felt like a very good Sonlighter <smile>. I'm glad I'm not alone in this!

Brenda Russell Kicsak We are considering doing school year round to lighten our daily schedules. Any ideas of how to easily adjust the Sonlight schedule to carry it out a year?

I would think that the easiest way would be to just adjust the math. Instead of taking 36 weeks to complete a Core, you need to decide if you want to take a full year (52 weeks) or figure in some breaks throughout the year. Once you've decided on how many actual weeks of school you'll do, simply extend each week in your Core IG to allow for that many more days. So instead of taking 5 days to complete one week's worth of assignments, perhaps you'll stretch it out to 7 or 8 days.

Judy knows what she's talking about. I'll just toss in that because there aren't specific dates on your IG you can go at your own pace. So, if you rock through a book in a few days, you could take reading off for a while and focus on science or math.

I hated grades in school.Grades were a game to be won. And I won that game by graduating Valedictorian. But as cool as it is to be able to whip out that title to try to impress people--people who are, sadly, all too often unimpressed by my title--I don't think it has much meaning...

As Sonlight people, I know you like to read. And today, I'm here to share an article written by my mom. That's right: An article by Sarita Holzmann, President of Sonlight Curriculum...

Love this article! Will definitely be sharing it with friends. However, Katie is right, the dating in that one picture is way off. It's either very late 20's or 30's. Immediately to the left of that one is Lucy Webb Hayes' portrait. That is how women dressed in 1891. No woman or girl could even be forced to wear short, cropped hair or a short hemline in 1891.

But if I remember, I'll get back to you-all about it.

Sounds like a great way to start Shirley (but then, I'm a wee bit biased!). You might also want to check out our Choosing Forum (https://www.sonlight-forums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=18) where you can ask questions and read feedback about our products.

Amelia, well, you could always just buy the whole IG and use the sections that you want. ...of course, if you're going to do that, I suggest you buy the whole Core <smile>. But that may be a little too much "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" which I've been reading to the girls <smile>.

Thanks for the feedback Judy and Luke. It would be an big selling point to Sonlight to go ahead and sell those readers as their own package, though we all know they do go along with the cores. The readers will be too easy for my daughter to read by the time we get to the part of the Core that matches up with them. Therefore, I and MANY other ... Read Morepeople may not be able to use those readers for their older children.
PLEASE consider being a little flexible. We're smart moms and we can still bring up historical context as our readers read ahead. Not to mention the fact that our readers who read ahead will have "Aha!" moments when we do get to those historical events in the cores. They will also have the satisfaction of reading at their OWN pace, and reading books at their OWN level.
