Mystery writers Deborah Grabien, John Pedersen, and Danny Carnahan will converge on San Rafael’s City Council Chambers for a conversation about their recent books, all set in the world of music-making.
Grabien is the author of the just-released “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” the second in her series of rock and roll my...steries featuring rock star / detective J.P. Kinkaid. The first in the series, “Rock and Roll Never Forgets,” appeared to critical acclaim in 2008, following a series of mystery ghost stories based on folk ballads. She stepped forward to offer to do a fundraiser for the San Rafael Public Library, and came up with the idea of inviting other mystery writers who feature musical themes in their work. She also thought up the idea of inviting musicians to augment the event. Attendees can expect some surprises in that vein when they attend.
John Pedersen is the proprietor of Amazing Grace Music in San Rafael, and is the author of the recently-published “bluegrass and old-time music” mystery, “Scroll and Curl.” He promises to bring his banjo and fiddle and treat the audience to some tunes.
Danny Carnahan’s most recent mystery is entitled “Fortune Turns the Wheel.” He is a San Rafael native and a respected traditional musician who also happens to play with the popular Celtic Grateful Dead band, Wake the Dead.
The three authors will also convene for a panel discussion, moderated by Randall Brandt of the UC Berkeley Bancroft Library, who is an authority on Bay Area mysteries, maintaining the Golden Gate Mysteries website.
The event is a benefit for the San Rafael Public Library Foundation, and is being held in conjunction with the “Marin Rocks” exhibit series of events.
