In recent days, questions have been raised about the application of the Section 1603 renewable energy Recovery Act program to projects in which some of the wind turbine components are made overseas. This is an important issue and one I’d like to respond to here. ...

Wind and solar energy are the energies of the future. If the US doesn't invest in building and developing these technologies, we will all be buying these from other coutries. All components won't be made here, as in any other manufacturing process, but if we own the technology and manufacture and assemble most of the product, we will be exporting and growing our economy vs. someone else's.

@Brian - Finding an entry level job in any field is moderately challenging right now. Government stimulus dollars have actually been fairly slow to show up and employers are still reluctant to add employees until economic signals are clearer. Employment in the government sector is a bit less affected by business cycles (the government sometimes increases hiring during an economic downturn to "take up the slack" left by a shrinking private sector). DOE has a renewable energy Lab in Colorado called NREL that specializes in Renewable Energy solutions.
http://www.nrel.gov/employment/
NREL is a small Lab (<1000 employees) but has allot of work and support these days.
NOAA is a wonderful meterological research organization with enough ships to qualify as the seventh largest Navy in the world. You might consider checking out the following link if you would like to study the climate impacts and influences of the sea.

Private sector employers still sporatically hire. Others posting on the forum have a better idea of where to look currently for private sector clean energy jobs.

(Economic cycles are cyclical and frequently conditions change before the time you graduate from training. One school of thought is just try to figure out what kind of work you would like-love to do, study that, and ask your college instructors and your guardian angel for help getting that first job).

If you consider that in the future conservation measures will force more people into zero ENERGY "off the grid" homes likes Earthships, then the capability to laser beam a small amount of power (less than 2kW) every once in a while DIRECTLY TO these WIDELY DISPERSED homes will become a major market that can best be served by small SOLAR POWERSATS in various earth orbits.

Some of the monies we gave pakistan to use against the Talliban,is more than likely being used to purchase arnaments to protect themselfs against India, since they have a constant battle with each other, and their accountability for those monies is very small. Then we go into to Pakistan and bomb some sites that have some innocent civilians, and yes we have gps ,but the intel is sometimes wrong,or the Taliban intentionly use friendlies to shield themselfs and we piss those people off some more,so they hate us more, and more everyday. We need to stop being the world's police. I hope you take a moment to watch this powerful video about the dedicated men and women who are working to improve the environment at the Savannah River Site thanks to support from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

With funding from the Recovery Act, we have been able to accelerate the clean-up at the Savanna...h River Site and put Americans back to work. As of October 30th, 2009, 2,295 jobs have been created or saved at this Site.Read More

@Michael Are you seriously objecting to a 5 minute youtube video explaining efforts to create jobs and clean up materials that are dangerous to the public? If they didn't create such videos people would probably complain about lack of transparency or evidence that the stimulus bill was doing anything useful!

@Robert Isn't a significant part of the stimulus money going to new forms of energy and a start to a new grid to deliver such energy? The clean up work as you say needs to be done, and can be started immediately, thus spending stimulus dollars on it makes sense! The work related to the new grid and energy sources will require years of construction ... Read Moreand then create real sources of jobs and revenue for decades to come!

I think they are looking at this as a short, medium and long term problem and creating solutions appropriate to that.

Pricing up energy will not make America prosperous or safe.
The sustainable way to create jobs on a lasting basis is to reduce the cost of energy. America uses the highest amount of energy per worker of any nation on the planet and not coincidentally has the highest worker productivity of any nation on the planet. Your prosperity and wage ... Read Moredifferential over equally hard working Chinese and Indian workers currently is supported by your increased effective use of energy. If you choose to reduce energy use per worker while manufacturing and choose to settle back into the pack of nations with respect to manufacturing you should expect real wages paid to your workers will inevitably become equal on a purchasing power parity basis to real wages paid foreign workers. This would currently entail American wage cuts to levels of 25% or less of current wages. If you are currently having trouble keeping things going in your family you should investigate how things would go on 1/4 wages as America reduces energy utilization by pricing up the cost of energy with taxes and gradually drifts downward to worker wage parity with our Asian industrial competition.

You can invent novel schemes to price up energy at a cost and the cost will be the real purchasing power of your wages.

I haven't seen ANY effect of the stimulus money in my area. I know it's being spent...so its flowing into the hands of he usual fat-cat contractors...it's a political pork barrel that is being handed out to a handful of "the usual suspects" the big companies that get all state and federal contracts.

The stimulus is not about creating jobs, it's about creating INFLUENCE and peddling influence.

The most effective and practical first step – Ask Federal Employees to voluntarily give up MEAT in their diets

Raising Livestock and Meat Eating is a major threat to the environment and a major contributor to Global Warming
According to a recent report published by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, the livestock sector generates more greenhouse gas emissions as measured in CO2 equivalent – 18 percent – than transport. It is also a major source of land and water degradation.

Producing a calorie of meat protein means burning more than ten times as much fossil fuels--and spewing more than ten times as much heat-trapping carbon dioxide--as does a calorie of plant protein. One of the most positively impactful steps the Federal Government could take is to request that Federal Employees reduce, with an ultimate objective of eliminating, all meat in their diet. UN FAO research indicates the this single step, when all factors and interdependencies are added up, does more to reduce global warming emissions than eliminating planet wide all use of petroleum for transportation use in the world’s vehicles.

What a shameful waste of money! The solar house was beaten to death in the 1970-1980's...it just WILL NOT HAPPEN..not here in America for a variety of reasons. It's not that it is impossible to build a solar house, just that it is ludicrously expensive, high maintenance, inconvenient.
