Delegate Steve Shannon is the Democratic nominee for Attorney General. He currently represents Virginia’s 35th House District, which includes a significant portion of the Tyson’s Corner business corridor. A former Assistant Commonwealth Attorney for Fairfax County, Steve serves as special counsel to the law firm of Odin, Feldman & Pittleman, P.C. and, has been named one of Virginia’s “Legal Elite” by Virginia Business magazine.
As a member of the Virginia House, Steve serves on the House Committees on Appropriations, Education, and Agriculture, the Chesapeake and Natural Resources. In 2004, Steve worked closely with Governor Warner to win passage of the 2004 budget, which led to Virginia being named the Best Managed and most pro-business state by Governing and Forbes Magazines. Last year, Steve was a leading voice in the passage of the 2008 Higher Education Bond Package, a bipartisan effort resulting in the largest capital investment in Virginia’s universities and colleges in recent years.
A leading child safety advocate in the General Assembly, Steve and his wife Abby co-founded the Metropolitan Washington AMBER Alert system to recover abducted children. As a result of his work, he’s received several awards from the law enforcement community and advocacy groups for his efforts as a legislator, a former prosecutor, and a citizen. In addition, Steve was appointed by Governor Tim Kaine to the Governor’s Commission on Sexual Violence, where he served as Chairman of the Committee on Treatment and Intervention.
