Stiff Promotions The Bog Rolling Stones
The Boileroom, Guildford
Saturday 13th March 8.00pm
£10.00 advance / £12.00 door

One of the most popular live tribute bands in the area but the question is... would you let your daughter go?!

The Bogs formed a while back with one aim in mind:'to inject a little fun and tongue-in-cheek humour into the... all too serious world of tribute bands'.

Realising that it is impossible to take one's self seriously whilst prancing about on stage in a wig and stripy trousers, the band's attitude revolves around high energy, no holds barred entertainment. (Not to mention shouting “Yeaaaaaaahhhhhhh, baaayyyyybeeeee!” at every opportunity).

Band members slip in and out of character at opportune moments and wigs have been known to fly across the room. Then, just when you think it's simply theatre, Keef's ice pick guitar strikes a nerve, the rhythm section plugs in and the music reaches up, grabs Mick by the ankle and pulls him under!

Despite all the larking about the band has earned a reputation as one of the most authentic sounding tribute acts around, tackling the more challenging songs with great enthusiasm.

The Bog Rolling Stones are now one of the most popular, sought after live bands in the area. Of course, it's only Rock 'n' Roll... but a lot of people seem to like it, like it, yes they do!!! Mick Slacker & Co's tongue in cheek tribute act just gets better and better.

Satisfaction's always guaranteed when these long haired boys play your town! Their tongue in cheek humour, wigs, stripy trousers and boundless energy make them an act not to be missed.

The question is... would you let your daughter go???

Stiff Promotions The Silver Beatles
The Boileroom, Guildford
Saturday 13th February 8.00pm
£10.00 advance / £12.00 door

This quartet are clearly a cut above most they blast out songs with note-perfect aplomb"- The Daily Telegraph

The Silver Beatles are back! The south's leading Beatles tribute band will be playing live once again at The Bo...ileroom, Guildford on Sat 13 February.

Early Beatles, late Beatles, dead Beatles, living Beatles, you get them all with The Silver Beatles.

Based in Portsmouth, the band is Andy Powell as John Lennon, Jason Kaye as Paul McCartney, Darren Vernall as George Harrison, James Rogers as Ringo Starr and Chris Hann as George Martin.

The band's aim is to make the show as authentic as possible. It has performed across the UK and internationally and has even received acclaim from Cynthia Lennon herself, who said that the band is: "lookalike, soundalike and even thinkalike - it's uncanny!"

The band has played with The Quarrymen, Denny Laine, the Merseybeats and the original Beatles drummer, Pete Best. It has also shared the bill with the likes of Robbie Williams and Madonna.

There seems to be two different methods employed by tribute bands in copying their heroes.

One is to immerse themselves totally in character, become the band. The other is to still do this, but do it with tongue very much in cheek.

So how to interpret the greatest pop group of all time?

The Silver Beatles go for option B, not taking themselves too seriously and this approach definitely works for them.

They indulge in banter among themselves and with the crowd, making the most out of the fact that every Beatle is instantly recognisable.

The first half of the show is the young Beatles, suits and mop tops, covering all the early hits; "Saw Her Standing There", Can't Buy Me Love" among others before finishing on "Twist and Shout".

Then it's a quick break and costume change where they miraculously transform into the older, hippie era Beatles; the period where they wrote some of their finest songs.

Just point non-believers to songs like "In My Life" and "Let It Be" which show, more so than the early years, why the Beatles are still held in such esteem.

Here's som enice words other poeple have written about The Silver Beatles:

"...Cover bands are big business these days, but this quartet are clearly a cut above most with suits, mop-tops and jerking stage manoeuvres all in place as they blast out "From Me To You", "Roll Over Beethoven" and "Please, Please Me" with note-perfect aplomb."- The Daily Telegraph

The Freebutt, Brighton
Saturday 6th February 7.30pm

Chesney Hawkes leads you through a musical journey performing his own songs & his collaborations with others

Born into a musical family (his father is the singer Chip Hawkes, formerly with the 1960s... band The Tremeloes), Chesney Hawkes' own career began at 19, when he appeared as the title character in the film Buddy's Song alongside Roger Daltrey.

In March 1991, he released his biggest single "The One And Only," from the film's soundtrack. Written By Nik Kershaw, the song was later featured in the opening credits of Doc Hollywood (1991), starring Michael J. Fox. The single spent five weeks at Number 1. It has become part of the soundtrack of a generation, and still features on radio playlists, compilations and in DJ sets everywhere.

Subsequent singles also charted, including What's Wrong With This Picture?, his 2002 collaboration with Adam Schlessinger of Fountains of Wayne,Stay Away Baby Jane and his most recent release Another Fine Mess in 2006, which was a collaboration with Nik Kershawand saw the pairing return to the charts, 15 years after their first success.

Also the title song from his first album for many years Another Fine Mess was released on the Sargent Poppy label, his own imprint. The culmination of three years' work, it was a collection of 16 songs, all co-written by Chesney except for one track,'Come and Get It', a Chesney favourite which was written by Paul McCartney and recorded by Badfinger, reaching number 4 in 1970.

Brimming with talented collaborators, producers on the album include Charlton Pettus, acclaimed for his work with Tears for Fears, Nik Kershaw and Chris Nicolaides, fresh from his work on Mika's Platinum selling album, Life in Cartoon Motion. Co-writers on the album include Phil Thornally, Adam Schlesinger and, of course, Nik.

Chesney has also had success as a songwriter for other artists, including A1, Caprice, Tricky, Jennifer Paige, Hepburn, Tears for Fears and of course, Nik Kershaw. He also often works with the comedian and best-selling author Tony Hawks, on songs that are available on MySpace.

In 2001 Chesney embarked on a 'mini' tour with his four piece band, which was initially intended to take in five dates. The word spread very quickly and universities, colleges and clubs all over the country were soon booking Chesney and the band. The 'mini' tour has now exceeded 600 dates and when added to Chesney's performances at many open air summer radio road shows, the combined 'live' audience to which he has performed during the period has now topped the 1 million mark.

Chesney has combined touring with appearing on Channel 4's Top Ten Teen Idols, CD:UK, London Tonight, VH1, Popworld, Question of Pop, Banzai, Loose Women, Matthew Wright Show, This Morning, BBC's The Cinema Show, Big Brother's Big Mouth, Celebrity Big Brother, The Graham Norton Show, Britain's Got Talent, The One Show and Jonathan Ross on Radio 2. He has presented two shows for VH1/MTV and has taken part in a celebrity edition of The Weakest Link. Chesney took part in Channel 4's The Games emerging a medal winner and has appeared on the Granada/LWT show Hit Me Baby One More Time. He has also appeared on a Champion of Champions edition of The Games.

In 2008, Chesney starred in a national tour of the new musical, Can't Smile Without You, featuring more than 40 of the songs of Barry Manilow.

Chesney's number 1 love and main priority is songwriting and producing, so if he's not performing he's in the studio working on songs for himself and others. He also organizes an annual songwriting retreat in Iceland called Songfusion.

This is a chance to spend an evening with Chesney Hawkes the songwriter, as he leads you through his musical journey, performing his own songs, his collaborations with other artists and a few of his personal favourites.

"I like these lads! Reminding me of the Undertones. A spunky bunch!" - Franz Stahl (Scream & Foo Fighters)

Hardly Heroes are an Indie based pop/rock band that prides themselves... on their fresh and vibrant sound.
They are made up of Luke Usher on lead vocals and bass, Sam Malone on lead guitar, Will Cahill on rhythm guitar and Kurtis Maiden on drums.

The band first formed in the summer of 2006 when they entered Power fm`s rock school competition where the prize was an opening slot for the Zutons at Southampton Guildhall. The competition was closely contested and out of 300 entrants Hardly Heroes finished a credible 2nd.

The judges were so impressed that they decided to give the band a support slot with channel 4`s own rock school winner "L’il Chris" which they pulled off with aplomb in front of 8,000 people.

In the spring of 2007 the band entered the "live and unsigned" competition and worked their way through the heats to play the final at Portsmouth Guildhall where they emerged as best band in the competition which started with over 10,000 entrants.

Hardly Heroes reputation was now cemented as a very popular up and coming band in the local area and lots of media attention followed including several newspaper articles and radio interviews.

The band has gained lots of experience in playing in front of large crowds in quality venues for a number of signed acts including the "Attack! Attack!, The Mission District, Young Knives, Jubilee, Hot Club du Paris, The Hot Melts and hard rocking teen punk band Outl4w.

Last year the band were invited to London to record their first EP with "One Night Only`s" producer and have since been invited back to record again.

Here's some nice words other people have written about Hardly Heroes:

"I like these lads! Thin sounding as it may be, you give it some thick wumf! by giving the guitars a biting edge, with a dry attack on the main vocal leaving the air to the backing ones. I like the energy in their style and live performance pictures. I like the burgeoning image - Luke, almost looking like a very young Paul Weller, and the rest reminding me a little of the Undertones. A spunky bunch!" - Franz Stahl (Scream, Wool and Foo Fighters)

"You guys are awesome." - Michael 'Mickey Shoes' Shuman (Queen of the Stone Age, Jubilee)

"Hardly Heroes are up next, one of the south coasts most popular young bands these indie-rock upstarts thrash their guitars and pound the drums but lead singer Luke Usher's vocals eschew the screaming and gurning antics that make indie-rock a dirty word, instead adopting a baritone that at times hints at an almost Jim Morrison-esque croon. Sam Malone and Will Cahill's duelling guitars adding layers of sound that veer from stadium rock to indie jangle and from punk snarls to, at one point, a reggae riff that sounds a bit like The Police. These guys are good though, assured performers and astute enough to pick up on what works and what doesn't." - Artrocker

"Spectrum 7 are a grand proposition" (KKKK) - Kerrang Magazine; "Guillotine Sharp" - NME Magazine

Sean, Jon, Jason, Henry and Graeme have been writing unconventional, innovative and, above all, new rock so...ngs together since 2008.

They mix unconventional musical structures with electronic beats and huge riffs and with this the group have become a writing force to reckon with - with genre defying live shows that have to be seen.

In their time together the surrey quintet have written a wealthy back catalogue of material and shared stages with the likes of Enter Shikari, Cage the Elephant, People in Planes, Frank Turner, The Xcerts, Help She Can't Swim, Meet Me In St. Louis and embarked on their own UK tours.

Every release that they've made, from EP's to demos has turned heads.

Something proved with the fact that since the band signed to Xtra Mile recordings both their debut single 'Blue Wray' and their debut mini-album 'So Silent the Night' have received nothing but praise from a wide selection of media - as 2009 draws to a successful close, with the 2nd single 'Serafin' out on November, 2010 looks as though things can only get better.

Here’s some nice things other people have written about Spectrum 7:

"Spectrum 7 are a grand proposition" (KKKK) - Kerrang Magazine

"Talent and potential aplenty" - Rocksound Magazine

"Guillotine Sharp" - NME Magazine

It may also be worth mentioning that Daniel P Carter has played their debut single "Blue Wray" for two weeks running on his Radio 1 Rock Show!
