Poetry Idol
presented by The Age Writers Festival and Salon Productions.
Toorak/South Yarra Library hosted heat two of Poetry Idol on Monday 6th April 2009.
A great night was had as 20 poets competed for prizes and a chance to perform in the final to be held on August 30th at Federation Square as part of the Melbourne Wr...iters Festival.
Actor/Author and winner of the 2008 Poetry Idol Ezra Bix entertained the audience with readings of his poetry before and after the contest.
MC Michael Crane introduced the poets who were warmly appreciated by the large crowd. A wide range of poetry styles where enthusiastically presented by the participating poets.
The official judges were author of “The Slap” Christos Tsiolkas and “The Age” poetry editor Gig Ryan. They had a difficult choice to make in choosing two of the winners.
The audience also had their say by casting a vote for their top 2 picks as well as awarding an encouragement prize.
So at the end of a terrific night featuring music, cheese and wine, the winners were…
