Sustain Charlotte Great news today about how we may be able to work with our neighbors to help reduce Charlotte's carbon footprint -- if the City Council approves the proposal tonight and the federal agreement agrees to give us the $6.5 million we are requesting. A very innovative idea!

Sustain Charlotte As promised during his campaign, Anthony Foxx has announced that his first act as Charlotte mayor will be to sign the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement.
More than a dozen N.C. cities have joined the campaign against global warming. By signing, the communities pledge to work toward cutting emissions of greenhouse ...gases to pre-1990 levels. Foxx said he will put Charlotte on board "with the stroke of a pen."

This early announcement affirms our belief at SustainCharlotte that Anthony Foxx will continue to be a leader on sustainability and we look forward to working with him once he takes office on December 7.

Sustain Charlotte SustainCharlotte endorses Anthony Foxx for Mayor of Charlotte for his strong commitment to all three of the issues we believe are critical for our city’s future: greater environmental sustainability, social equity, and economic prosperity.

As stated on his website, Foxx has an impressive environmental record as the Ci...ty Council’s first Environmental Committee Chair as well as a clear vision of how we can solve our pressing environmental problems (see link).

Foxx has also made increased social equity a pillar of his public life as well as his quest to lead this city, which is embodied in his campaign slogan: “ONE CHARLOTTE, ONE FUTURE.” Foxx understands that economic opportunities and quality of life vary vastly from one part of Charlotte to the next, despite the prosperity our city has experienced in recent years as a whole. Having lived his entire life in our community gives him unique insights as to what has caused these disparities and how to address them.

Finally, Foxx has shown a nuanced understanding of our local economy and crafted a bold vision for how we can adapt to the shock we have been dealt with the decline in the financial services industry. Like all good leaders Foxx sees opportunity in this time of crisis and realizes that greening our economy by attracting green businesses and training our youth in this fast-growing field is critical to restoring our economic strength.
