Texas AgriLife Entomologists Discuss Issues at 2009 Entomology Science Conference 9 Nov 2009, 12:25 pm
Change and collaboration were the topics of many discussions during the first week of November as the Department held its annual Entomology Science Conference. The event brings together both on-and off- campus faculty and Extension agents from both the Texas AgriLife Extension Service and Texas AgriLife Research to discuss various entomological topics affecting the state. Congratulations to Bart Drees and Michelle Sanford for their outstanding achievements within the Entomological Society of America (ESA). Professor and Extension specialist Dr. Bastiaan "Bart" Drees was elected to be the Southwestern Branch representative on the ESA Governing Board and Ph.D. student Michelle Sanford was announced as the latest recipient of the John Henry Comstock Award by the Southwestern Branch. Dr. Gregory Sword Named Perry Adkisson Distinguished Seminar Speaker 28 Sep 2009, 9:05 am
The Department of Entomology introduced Dr. Gregory Sword of the University of Sydney in Sydney, Australia, as this year's Perry Adkisson Distinguished Seminar Speaker during the 2009 Departmental seminar series on September 10. Sword is a senior lecturer for the School of Biological Sciences and heads the Molecular Ecology Lab. The lab's research ranges from molecular genetics and behavior to landscape scale ecology and phylogenetics. Read more >>
Texas AgriLife Research Welcomes Dr. Mike Brewer to Corpus Christi 11 Sep 2009, 1:05 pm
The Department and Texas AgriLife Research welcomes Dr. Mike Brewer to the entomologist position at the Texas AgriLife Research and Extension Center in Corpus Christi. Brewer joined the center on September 1 from Michigan State University, where he was an associate professor as well as the coordinator for MSU's IPM program. Read more >>
Dr. Raul Villanueva Named Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist for Weslaco 24 Aug 2009, 12:05 pm
For Dr. Raul Villanueva, the Rio Grande Valley will be called home as he settles into his new post as assistant professor and Extension Specialist for the Texas AgriLife Extension and Research Center in Weslaco. Dr. Villanueva joined Texas AgriLife Extension on August 20th and will be working with producers and the communities in the Valley area. Before coming to Weslaco, he worked as a research associate at North Carolina State University. Read more >>

Construction Begins on the Texas Honey Bee Facility

The vision for funding, constructing, and equipping the joint, permanent homes for the tentatively named Honey Bee Research and Education Center and the existing Texas Apiary Inspection Service begins to take on a physical shape this month. This 6,500 square foot, wood framed building with metal roof and siding will be located on the Texas A&M Riverside Campus, College Station.

Record Number of Entomology Graduates Participate in May Commencement Ceremony

A milestone was made in the Department of Entomology's 110-year history as a record number of students from the Department paricipated in May 2009 commencement exercises.
A total of 26 students, consisting of 24 undergraduates and two graduate students joined the more than 800 undergraduates and 57 graduate students from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences during the 2 p.m. ceremony on Friday, May 15.

Entomology Student Research Recognized at TAMU Student Research Week

Research is the first step in discoveries. For four students in the Department of Entomology, their research discovered top honors for excellence during this year's Student Research Week.

These students were part of hundreds of other projects presented during the event held from March 23-27.
