Big oil want taxpayers to pay for the CCS that will bring process emissions down... They estimate that will cost $150 a tonne, and so given that 36Mt now , rising to 140MT by 2020, equates to $21bn every year... Is this really on the table??? Never mind as to whether CCS will even work (sti...ll no large scale working ...operation), that others say would be more than $150 tonne and that we've neglected the 9MT of carbon that Greenpeace estimates will result from wrecking the boreal forest

Something fishy going on with College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta: on Friday all charges against John O'Connor dropped, then see a weekend of leaked reports saying he was wrong all along?!
Hmmmm, couldn't be because spate of movies coming out featuring John?

Ending Investment in Tar Sands Here's a media hit from an report signed by a coalition of NGOs (including RAN) criticizing Italian oil company ENI's investments in the tar sands in the Congo. This is a scary new issue: if you think tar sands development looks bad in Alberta, just imagine what it'll look like in Africa...

A study from a German think tank criticizes Italian energy giant Eni's plans to squeeze oil from the tar sands of the Republic of Congo, saying it could endanger one of the world's largest tropical rain forests.

Hearing on H2oil website (a movie that will be winging its way to UK soon) that final ridiculous charges against Dr John O'Connor been dropped - basically this doctor said seeing unbelievably high rates of cancer being found in native communities downstream of tar sands. One cancer (of bile duct) which normally only se...en at rates of one case per hundred thousand seen three times (in community of 1,200)... And Alberta Health officials charge him with creating "undue alarm" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ending Investment in Tar Sands The message here, as I see it: "Canada is a banana republic because, unlike Venezuela, we aren't refining our tar sands oil before exporting it, so they're going to make more money off of completely destroying the planet and causing rampant climate change than we are." Ugh.

Venezuela was once the exploited banana republic, and Canada a respected member of the G7 industrialized countries. As of now, Canada could learn an important lesson from Venezuela about protecting its economic interests.
