How does this page work?
Hi, I’m Kaol – welcome to my page. This page has been set up to provide information to anyone who is interested in a career in teaching. If you have a question for me or any of the other teachers on this site then please post a question on the wall. This page has been set up in association with the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) so there are also teaching career advisers available to answer questions about the practical aspects of getting into teaching – such as training routes and financial support.

Heya - I'm at Cumbria - are you wanting to do a primary or secondary course? Most Unis require GCSEs at A-C level, plus relevant A Levels that are balanced (history, biology, english, maths etc).Don't think you need to redo anything, apart from a bit of subject revision :) x

Hi Maria You are classed as an overseas trained teacher so you need to find a job in a school as an unqualified teacher and then enrol on the OTT programme Look at www.tda.gov.uk/ott for details of the programme

Hi Paul You really need to decide which you want to teach and go for tht option as it seems at the moment that yuou are undecided and as Kaol saysget into schools and that should help you to decide For the PGCE science you will need to talk to the provider as you are not a strong candidate other than for your excellent classroom experience.www.gttr.ac.uk look at the courses and ake contact with the admissions tutor for science

Varinder Sandhu

Varinder Sandhu Hi. Two questions: I have just sent off my PGCE application form, when do interviews start? Also, I will be doing some observation in a primary school. What should I be taking notes on? Thanks.

Hi Varinder, the interview process is usually arranged by your course providers who will contact you for interview if you put in a successful application.

For tips on the interview process see the link below.

In terms of observing a lesson, try to focus on one or two aspects from the list below (these are all requirements of the Q standards):

Professional attributes

Expectations relate to the teacher’s ability to: develop professional relationships, communicate with others, understand relevant legal frameworks, and engage with professional development.

Professional knowledge and understanding.

Additionally, they require an understanding of how teachers contribute to the well-being of children and young people and of the variety of influences affecting child development.

Professional skills

planning, assessing, monitoring, giving feedback, team working and collaboration. They establish clear expectations relating to the promotion of positive attitudes to learning, discipline and safe learning environments. They are underpinned by the attributes and knowledge covered in the first two sections.

I hope this helps, good luck!!
