This is exciting news, but I wonder how long the drive took and what the terrain was like? I'd be disappointed if it took 10+ hours and involved a mostly 6+% downhill grade.

500 km is not state of the art (for eCars it may very well be, but that doesn't help unless you can recharge within 3 minutes), and it was certainly reached at a very constant 70 kmh...?

I have no doubt in my mind that i am proud of Tesla helping support a movement into a new technological advancement for automobiles. My dad's tesla is the most amazing car i have ever driven in. now if only the "Big Three" could come out with more cars like this the world might be a better place.

I am so poor that I am having a hard time buying a 2,000 dollar snowmobile.

I think releasing new models should be the priority now. Other car makers started designing their own electric car. Hurry up Tesla with the sedan !

@ Autumn/Christian P: Weren't the Tesla recalls due to an assembly problem at Lotus? What major bugs are you talking about?

@ Mark: That 120mph top speed is in 1st gear! Imagine the top speed if they put in 2nd or 3rd gears. In any case, I don't have any call to drive faster than 120mph - as much as I want to.

It's no more than a mini-van. And which group would you rather roll with?

BMA: Tesla's looking at other technologies; each chemistry has it's pros and cons at the moment. Hub motors are great in concept but too heavy at the moment for sports cars - too much unsprung weight; I like the idea of real 'four wheel drive' though.

BMA: To add to MT's comment. It's also a matter of cost and risk analysis. Because Tesla is a brand spanking new company that must overcome the lack of reputation to their name and with the Roadster being their first product, Tesla needed to take great care in providing a level of affordability that made it worth the "risk" to consumers to purchase... See More their product instead of settling for a more reliable albeit potentially less rewarding choice. To make their first product too technologically advanced and therefor too pricey or too risky would have been shooting themselves in the foot before the company could even truly get rooted.

If you don't like bureaucracy don't go public.
