George

George

George Daniel was born 2 March 1984 and since he was still a young child he had a passion for music. His parents had a phenomenal collection of music and George was always found listening to his parent’s collection of vinyls from Booker T and the MG’s to The Beatles to Rodriguez. Since an early age, George and his frie...nds would set up their parents sound systems and hook up 2 turntables and play around with it at house parties. At the young age of only 13 George landed himself a slot at Bloemfontein campus radio station KovsieFM. The show was a first for the station as he was the youngest radio jock the station had ever employed and his music style was that of a leftfield genre, playing music from Cold Cut and DJ Shadow straight through to jazz icons such as Miles Davis. When George turned 16 he decided to make music his full time career choice. He took on the alias “The String” and was scouted by a legendary club in Bloemfontein called “Die Mystic Boer”. Here George learnt the art of breakbeats. It wasn’t long before he became the head resident for the club and started playing with some of the biggest bands and DJ’s in the industry today. George and a fellow DJ, deejtea, decided to do something new and joined forces to make “The Duel Enterprize”. They got themselves a sponsorship from Vodacom, got themselves a new slot on KovsieFM and started broadcasting all their gigs live on Radio on Saturday nights. This was also a first for the radio station and was a huge success which attracted many artists to come and perform with them. George then met Disco D and collaborated to make the group, DiscoStrings. DiscoStrings toured South Africa playing many big gigs and festivals and even playing in the townships. Being two young white males, they were welcomed by the black community and strived at playing their electronic music to the masses. They were also known to play the Urban Wave events and was a regular act performing for the Bloemfontein Celtics at their public seminars. After a grueling 10 years in Bloemfontein establishing him as an artist, George moved to Cape Town, got himself a manager and landed the spot as DJ for the Soundprint label. George also gets booked by the Cape Town label, African Dope from time to time playing at venues like Waiting Room, Fiction and Carnival Court. George is currently with DJ companies Soundrpint and DJhoohups. His influences in the breakbeat scene include Krafty Kuts, DJ Shadow, Kid Kenobi, Sebastian, Justice and Kissy Sell Out, High Contrast and Pendulum and his influences in the house scene include Louis Vega, Kenny Dope, Joey Negro, Fish go Deep and Dennis Ferrer.
