The first indictments served by the Clash came in the form of their debut single (on CBS Records/U.K.), 'White Riot,'... (read more)

For anyone who doesn't already own a copy,i really couldn't recommend The Clash's 'London Calling' 25th anniversary albumn highly enough.
It has the infamous 'Vannila Tapes' recordings on it.....Sublime!
It really gives an insight into how they functioned as a group.
Anyhow......Joe Strummer R.I.PUNK

I'll never forget 1979, Montreal. "Take the Fifth" Tour. Front row with bruised hips from being pushed against the stage by the crowd. I was 16 and when the band ripped into White Riot my buddies and I tried to jump up onto the stage. I guess we chickened out but when we hesitated Joe reached down and grabbed my arm and pulled me onto the stage... I freaked out and ran over and grabbed Mick. I then made my way to Toppers drum riser and jumped up and faced the on rushing crowd. Penny Sm... More...

I saw,at the time when the clash were split into two "clashes",the Joe strummer version,in the mid 80s'.Providence civic center.Joe(RIP)and Paul siminon autographed my shirt, and I gave Joe a button to wear, and he said thanks and put it on his lapel.Short guy.Same height as me.Paul was taller. It was quite a memory.Paul and his girlfriend were seen in my hometown of NewBedford,at one of the most seediest bars, having a beer and bog of chips, that day.I wish I still had the shirt....
