The Diane Rehm Show Tues. @ 10: The latest on the investigation into last week's Fort Hood shootings. How do you think the tragedy may impact perceptions of Muslim-Americans serving in the military?

Source: www.nytimes.com
In the years since Sept. 11, the service of Muslim-Americans is more necessary and more complicated than ever.

I agree with what Sue stated. Major Malik was harassed by so-call Christians in the military. He simply couldn't take it anymore and snapped. Should he pay for what he did? Absolutely! But enough with the "he did it because he's a terrorist Muslim." I was visiting my parents over the weekend and, unfortunately, my father likes to watch Fox ... Read Morenews. All they talked about is how this man must be a terrorist to do something like this. God, it was making me want to vomit. I'm so glad that Fox news is "fair and balanced."

Mr. Dean: Those are scary, rather disgusting, and very disturbing statements. As an American, I'm embarrassed for you and your statements about the Muslim faith.

I would point out that if they participate now in a group health plan that covers elective abortions they are contributing a much higher proportional amount to that procedure than the public plan would be taking. Also, remember that persons who use the public group option instead of employer based plans or individual plans are going to be paying premiums. So if a person has paid a couple years of premiums, then has a procedure she has essentially funded her own service.

If you are pro-life, you should agree that we need to stop the murder of innocent people by insurance companies who deny coverage. Then put your money where your mouth is and adopt the unwanted children that you force into the world so they won't be neglected, abandoned, abused or thrown into trash cans after a back alley abortion. Provide free ... Read Morehealth care for the mother so the baby won't be born with birth defects or addictions. And, while you're at it, adopt a special needs older child instead of waiting for a healthy white infant. I did and she is the joy of my life.

The Diane Rehm Show Mon. @ 10: Health care overhaul in the House: Congressional Democrats get a boost from the AARP and the American

Concerns over the hot-button issues of abortion and immigration threatened Friday to delay a House vote on health-care reform until early next week, and House Democratic leaders were struggling to contain the uprisings within their caucus.

I agree with Clayton Magruder. Follow the money. To remain compete against a public option, insurance companies will have to cut back on the grossly inflated executive salaries and dividend payouts, and they likely won't be able to afford to spend millions on lobbying.

Valerie Garza Estes

Valerie Garza Estes I very thoughtful listener gave the information that told me about the legislation that exempts health insurance companies from anti-trust laws, but no one seems to explain WHY they are exempt. Is it because they are regulated by states? Please explain this.

Thanks for this stimulating discussion. I'd like to return to an earlier comment by one of your panelists. She stated that the results in Virginia suggested that the election of President Obama was a "singular event". But is the outcome of the election very unique or telling? I've read several times that since 1989,... the "odd-year" election states of VA and NJ have consistently voted for the opposing party of the sitting president.Read More

José A. Amorós Alicea

José A. Amorós Alicea I couldn't believe how the president went on for about 3 minutes, making light banter and joking while those people's bodies where still on the street! NBC asks, "Who is advising him?" (NBC is not an official member of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy). If there was ever a time to turn off the teleprompter, that was it.
