The Flying Skulls
Northern California surely loves that deep, dark, dubby nu-school sound, and Eureka and Arcata have started to bring it hard with banging, modern acts on the regular! Steeped in the musical exchange with San Francisco to the south and Portland to the north, the tastes of music fans in this area are much more akin to an... urban center than quite coastal towns.
To that crowd of discerning aficionados of electronic music we bring a whomp-feast of epic proportions featuring San Francisco's own Flying Skulls, with mega producer Psy-Fi, plus local fav DJ Touch!
Straight dope on these Flying Skulls guys? They’re dirty. Massive drums, grimy low-end, mucked up distorted synthesizers, live syncopated beats flipping between 4/4, 3/4, and 7/8 time. The Skulls distill these elements through their battle-tested mix interface into dancefloor-rending sets of crushing improv with a cinematic depth meant for the very largest of soundsystems. Chromekids recently described their sound as, "A heavyweight collection of nasty synths, wobbly basslines and crunked out glitchy beats so dirty you'd swear they robbed their MPC player off a crack dealer."
This show is a follow-up to The Flying Skulls absolute decimation of The Arcata Theater Dec 5 2009. A Rebel Bass Collective show that put Ana Sia, The Flying Skulls, and Clay on a collision course with a packed theater of fist-pumping, raging Northern California heads! The recording of The Flying Skulls set from that show is sweeping the internet and is available for free download below!

"This super juicy-and-crunked-out tape was recorded when The Flying Skulls shared the bill with Ana Sia at the Arcata Theater Dec 5 2009 with a near-sellout crowd cheering them on! Includes all original Skulls material, much of it live and improv, along with with Flying Skulls remixes of and by J. Rogers and Jason Short of Blipswitch, Jackson from MO2, Hooj Choons, Mochipet, plus mashups with Easy E, Busta Rhymes, MC Lyte, Rhianna, JZ, and Mudmowth."
As the SF Bay Guardian said, "Expect ferocious units geared with space age machinery and foot soldiers parading the illest beats. These cats together posses a schizophrenic style that blasts through free-jazz out thereness..."
