The Montreal Canadiens have called a news conference for 4pm et/1pm pt where they will announce that Bob Gainey is stepping down as general manager of the hockey club. Assistant general manager Pierre Gauthier will take over the duties on an interim basis.

I'm a dedicated Habs fan but not a great era in my opinion. Lots of frustration. Gainey will go down in history as the one behind possibly worst trade (Huet) in history. We could have gone so far that year. Gainey and his delusions with Price.... He kept on trying to force a square peg into a round hole. Hopefully now we can at least develop the ... See Morepotential that Price has but couldn't capitalize on due to pressure. But most likely its too late for him as well. Price will go to a different city, wonder at the lack of pressure on him in comparison, and flourish. Oh well- hopefully we will keep Halak.

Terri, I think you have some good points there. Like Tyler, it was an average era, however this is not the 70"s anymore. Making the playoffs 4 out of his 5 years is quite respectable in todays' game, however not good enough for Habs fans :-) -- Chris
