is better known as St. John's, Nfld.'s Jon Janes. "Up & Down" appears on this year's four-song Hop, Skip & A Jump EP. It's a quiet, folky track full of banjo, acoustic guitar and harmonica.

The Mountains & The Trees is working on lists for 2009...

The Mountains & The Trees
Hey everybody!
Man, what a year 2009 was, eh? Well, here's hoping 2010 is twice as fun! So, what better way to start off the year (we all know you're going to be hungover for a week anyways) than to come down to the Rose & Thistle to see 3 wonderful acts dance for pocket change... I mean, entertain you with song (and... possibly dance). Since it's Thursday, we'll start a wee-bit early too, say, oh, I don't know, somewhere around 10:30-ish. Sound good? Of course it does! See you there? Here's hoping.
Cheers,
- Jon, The Mountains & The Trees

Steve Maloney - http://www.myspace.com/stevemaloneymusic
Student musician/writer/friend/vocalist... currently working on his first official demo (due in February 2010). Steve is a contemporary music major at Humber College in Toronto, ON (Etobicoke). Compared to Jeff Buckley, Josh Groban and Royal Wood, Steve has a tendency to run with improvisational ideas within his live sets. In 2008 Maloney performed for internationally recognized producer/composer/pianist David Foster as part of the Ovation Search (for Foster's charity). Primarily a vocalist, Maloney plans on centering his focus on contemporary compositions in the future. This is his only show until May! Come out and catch him while you can!

The Mountains & The Trees - http://www.rockandroots.com
Local-yokel rising-crust folk-singer. Described as a hootenanney by mother; tends to get a bit loopy - you decide!
The Mountains & The Trees is Jon Janes. He plays guitar, banjo, drums, uke, harmonica, and sings. He is often backed-up by the Valleys & Seas Orchestra, featuring a group of friends on a variety of instruments.

Andrew James O'Brien - http://www.myspace.com/andrewjamesobrien
Although born in Newfoundland’s capital city, St. John’s, Andrew James O'Brien has been a staple on the west coast music scene for a number of years. He cut his musical teeth in the city of Corner Brook where he has established a well known reputation for delivering memorable, energetic and unmistakably original performances. A storyteller, O’Brien blends personal experience, beautiful melodies and superb rhythm guitar to create a sound and style that is familiar while still being new and unique. There is no doubt that he sings from somewhere deep in his heart. He wears his songs on his sleeve and is unapologetically honest in his retelling of these stories.

I’m a firm believer that Christmas music doesn’t have to make you cringe. Every year I make a new holiday compilation to play and my Orphan’s Christmas Party (truly, we’re not orphans, just far from our families), and I’m amazing by all the new songs from the year.

The Mountains & The Trees This is what it's like to record a Mountains & Trees album, except there's no sound...

Happy Holidays! Yes, it is that time of year again, isn't it? I'll be heading home to see the family in a few days and to stuff myself with turkey dinner. Sadly, all is not completely bright this year as it'll be the first Christmas without Shadow, the family dog...
