Campaign for the Titians: 'Diana and Actaeon' is Secured for the Nation

The National Gallery and the National Galleries of Scotland are delighted to announce that Titian’s 'Diana and Actaeon' has been acquired for the nation.

The acquisition has been made possible with generous contributions from Scottish Government, the National Heritage Memorial Fund, The Monument Trust and The Art Fund charity, through public and private appeal and National Gallery London and National Galleries of Scotland funds.

The painting will be shared by both Galleries and will be displayed for five years at each institution in turn.

We would like to thank everyone who has supported the campaign.

Past exhibitions:

Corot to Monet (Admission free)
8 July 2009 – 20 September 2009

The Impressionists were indebted to a longer tradition of sketching and painting outdoors. ‘Corot to Monet’ will chart the development of open-air landscape painting up to the first Impressionist exhibition in 1874.

Drawing on the National Gallery’s rich collection of 19th-century French landscapes, the exhibition will feature all the major artists of this genre, including Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, Simon Denis, Theodore Rousseau and Claude Monet.

Monet, The Water-Lily Pond, 1899

Past exhibitions:

Picasso: Challenging the Past
25 February – 7 June 2009 (Admission charge)

Pablo Picasso (1881-1973), arguably the most influential artist of the 20th century, pitted himself against the greatest Masters of European painting in a life-long artistic dialogue. ‘Picasso: Challenging the Past’ explored the ways he took up the artistic concerns of the painters of the past and made audacious responses of his own.
