We just had hosted a German exchange student from Berlin the year before. My parents went to visit just before the wall fell, I went and visited the year after. My father was amazed that I was standing in places where he would've been shot had he been standing there when they went.

We are in our 2nd month of T4L. While there doesn't have to be a lot of parent involvement, there can be as much involvement as you want. I sit next to my daughter and we do science and history together. I LOVE the fact that you can straddle 3 years of learning together to fill in gaps, etc. If you come across something you haven't taught, go ... Read Moredown a grade level, fill it in, and then pick up where you left off. You can print our worksheets as well. The reading curriculum is phenomenal. I love how it really makes working on reading fluency a priority. The math has been great, but I haven't been impressed with the teaching of multiplication, so we are doing that on our own while doing the math on the computer. No it doesn't have a Christian worldview, but what better way to be involved by using this as a means of discussion? We just learned about the Vikings having multiple gods, and my daughter was very quick to not that there is only one God, and that their gods were just stories. Sounds like a great observation from a 9 year old, and made for a very interesting discussion with her daddy when he came home from work. :)

Yeah, I like making the calendars for the grandparents. I usually get a calendar at Micheal's that you can add your own pictures. They are usually $.99. Then I go throughout the year matching that picture for that month. It is fun and cheap and they look forward to it every year.

Life skills are part of everyday life around here. Our oven arc'ed and died so I am learning to bake on our grill, my kids are intrigued with the outcomes. Learn, adapt and relearn if necessary. The holidays have no affect for us, we cannot celebrate at all this year-so just eating at all is what we are thankful for!

The Old Schoolhouse Magazine Great article on Courtship from Spunky Homeschool.

Source: spunkyhomeschool.blogspot.com
My friend, Kim, has a saying on her Facebook, "A woman's heart should be so lost in God, that a man has to seek Him in order to find her." But this generation seems to be lost to Facebook and their cellphone making it way too easy not only to find her but everything about her too. ...

cool bag, article outlined the problem pretty well, but I was disappointed not to see some ways in which to combat this phenomenon.

great article-sad, but true. I believe the ways to combat this phenomenon is to PRAY DAILY, continually teach them what the Lord says about dating/courtship, pray for the conviction of the Holy Spirit upon our children and that they would continue to fear God, and set healthy boundaries for our little lambs. God will take care of the rest.
