It looks like a split decision last night in the battle of the Pagan candidates, resulting in a historic win for Republican candidate Dan Halloran. In a very close race Halloran defeated his Democratic opponent by a margin of 1300 votes to become the next New York City Councilman for District 19...

As a Pagan who also holds libertarian/conservative political views, I am overjoyed by Dan Halloran's victory.

Today is the day, elections are being held, and we’ll soon find out if two out/outed Pagan candidates will win their respective races. The higher-profile story, that of Republican New York City Council candidate, and Heathen Theodsman, Dan Halloran, has gotten a bit ugly in the final hours. ...

Well, here is hoping they don't bring us Pagan / Wiccans back to the dark ages. That being said, you should NOT have to be a Christian to be a politician...or anything for that matter. They are the worst hypocrites there are!

I agree, religion should not be an issue at all in the political arena, but for better or worse and I believe worse our country as a w hole has been so inundated with the idea that "christian good" " everything else bad" that it is going to take time to reverse the tide.

I have a few stories of interest before we dive head-first into our Samhain celebrations, starting with an Omaha World-Herald story about a Wiccan inmate who had his request granted to change his legal “Christian” name to his chosen “Witch name”. //

Tonight and tomorrow is when most modern Pagans celebrate Samhain. Samhain is the start of winter and of the new year in the old Celtic calendar. This is a time when the ancestors are honored, divinations for the new year are performed, and festivals are held in honor of the gods...

We already celebrated blot for the sacred aspect earlier this month for Winternights, tonight and tomorrow night is going to be the other part of any good Pagan celebration: good, awesome, not-so-clean but wholly enjoyable fun! We're starting it off with Rocky Horror Picture Show tonight and going from there.

The tern "politically correct" used to describe people you don't agree with: it's just as bad as the people in this article! The phrase, which started as a joke to describe the "cause of the week"-types of the '80s, and then appropriated by the right during congressional hearings on Supreme Court appointments during the Elder Bush's administration - has - since that time, become meaningless rhetoric ... mostly used as an insult.

Word has come to us that well-known spiritual teacher and author Ted Andrews passed away on October 24th. Andrews is perhaps best known among Pagans for his 1996 book “Animal-Speak: The Spiritual & Magical Powers of Creatures Great & Small” and many other animal-themed works. In...

After the amusement subsides (and it is funny) - we really need to realize that while we are sitting here laughing, this sort of thing is insidiously increasing the amount of misunderstanding (at best), and stoking the fervor of the wacky fundamentalists (at least) - of any ilk. Seriously; this sort of thing needs the combined efforts of advocacy ... Read Moregroups turned on it. The continued rise in fundamentalism is approaching dangerous levels worldwide, and I don't see it ebbing; I see it continuing to increase. The minority nuts in America may be a minority, but they have some far-reaching friends. Please make every effort to combat this wherever you find it. It may matter a great deal to us, the next generation, etc.
