Michael’s Artist Statement
I attempt to convey my understanding of “what is” in a way that has meaning to the viewer. “What is”, the conceptual content, includes sound, all other senses, thoughts, feelings and visions, which are interpreted in representational objects through the abstract expression of color, form, and all other elements of style. I seek to express the fact that all material things, representational objects, have a life force within them, which gives these things, be it plant, animal or inanimate object, meaning. Color, form and all other elements of visual art help embody that meaning beyond something’s external image.

This is a FREE beading workshop! But you must sign up to attend, please call us at 999-1280 to sign up. We do have a few more dates for this workshop also - please check our website, www.thewoodencow.com for more info.
For the past several years, wonderful Alaskan bead artist Jeanne Shanigan has been beading against br...east cancer. Every year, she asks fellow beaders to help her stitch “beaded quilt blocks” for an annual charity auction to support breast cancer research. This year’s quilt theme is “Turtles: Remember the turtle; persistence, not speed, counts; a cure for breast cancer will be found” and we will be stitching tiny beaded 1.5” turtle squares. In our two hour class, you will stitch your quilt block (it can be any design as long as it contains a turtle!) and sign it (and, if you wish, dedicate it to a special friend or family member who has battled this terrible disease). At the end of the year, all of the quilt blocks created at The Wooden Cow Gallery and Art Space will be shipped to Alaska where Jeanne will stitch them together and donate the finished quilt to Bead Artists Against Breast Cancer (BAABC) for their 2010 auction (the 2009 “heart” block quilt raised nearly $2,100 and 39 Wooden Cow participants beaded squares). Let’s show our New Mexico spirit for this great cause…all supplies and instruction are free – all you need to bring is your imagination and generous heart
