Sara Lloyd I found your site about a week ago and it’s been my favorite procrastination activity ever since! I’m studying for the bar exam (in Richmond, actually) and I check out TYH whenever I need a break from studying. I love your tips and style! I’ve read your posts about wedding gifts, and was wondering if you have any creative ideas for bridesmaid gifts (I’m getting married in Dec.)? Thanks!

Tammy at 3:34am July 4
Good luck on the bar exam! I graduated from U of R Law School way too many years ago and took it in Roanoke.

Ditto on the "good luck," Sara.
As for bridesmaids gifts - it's a bit out of territory for us since we didn't have bridesmaids at our wedding. But we certainly know that the more personal you can make it to an experience / inside joke / common interest that you share with your bridesmaids the better. Or if you've got a lot of bridesmaids, ... Read Moresomething that uniquely reflects something you're notorious for could work too. Either way, we think meaningful trumps expensive, so don't feel the need to break the bank.
Also, feel free to check out some of our favorite wedding bloggers for more tips: Courtney at http://www.brideslittlewhi tebook.blogspot.com/ and Abby at http://www.stylemepretty.c om/.

A Brooklyn couple made their first home purchase a weekend house in the Catskills, decorating it with pieces acquired through Craigslist, thrift shops and yard sales even items found on the street.

Jessica Chaja Legge Just found your site today. I am sooooo inspired by your beautiful home. The best part is you actually show us that we can do it, too! Can't wait to try out some of your ideas. You are officially my new fave site :)

So glad you found us Jessica! You'll have to let us know if you try anything out - and of course send before and after pics if you've got any. Thanks!

Will do! We are planing a large overhaul of our barren backyard and will be using your tips to repaint our kitchen cabinets! We'll let you know how things go! :)

Will do, Stephanie. We're driving by fairly often so we'll swing by next time we can. Looking forwarding to seeing what's new.

Ooh, how did you have it automatically update your facebook status with the RSS feed? Please share the magic!
This Young House at 7:19pm June 30
We added an RSS application through Involver.com. Although I think our "free trial" expires in a week. So if others have suggestions I'd love to know!

Alicia Marie Hoge okay I'm gonna check back July 6th for the mood board. This is SO FUN!:)

Alicia Marie Hoge OMG I am IN LOVE with your blog! I just happened to find it and spent the last 40 minutes "crashing your wedding":) ha ha U2 are adorable! Thanks for the ideas and inspiration!

Veronica Hi! I found your site a few months ago and I love it! My husband and I bought a 1948 center entrance colonial in the burbs of Detroit almost a year ago and are slowly trying to update it. The previous owners did most of the decorating in the late 80's and I'm constantly learning new ways to remove wallpaper (they had everything from ugly flowers to golf courses of the world..ugh!) When they moved, they left us quite a few pieces of furniture because they were downsizing and I'm trying to decide if they are worth trying to save. I've seen your tips on painting furniture and I especially love what you did with that pedestal table! One piece they left is a metal headboard with a brass finish and the other is the side table (both are pictured here before we moved in). I thought about painting the head board but I'm not sure how to do it so that it won't flake off. The table is kinda cool because it has a granite top but the base is so 70's looking. Any advice is apppreciated!
John at 3:34pm June 29
Hey Veronica - you could definitely save that headboard (and table) with a fresh coat of paint. For the metal on the headboard just be sure to use a spray primer (in the spray paint section) to keep the paint from flaking off. Then just follow it with a couple coats of semi-gloss or gloss spray paint and it should look as good as new - and a lot less 1980s!

How do you do that?! I have a fan page for my Etsy site, but can't figure out how to get the username assigned. Please help! :)

This Young House finally got Sherry behind the wheel... of Mario Kart on Wii.
This Young House at 6:36am June 29
We played it at my sister's house. Sherry's so-so at it and is just learning to love it. I'll always have a soft spot for racing games. And yes - it is harder than the real thing (lots more cliffs to fall off of). And Kayla, yeah, Sherry hasn't really warmed back up to driving since her 6 years living carless in NYC.
This Young House at 6:42am June 29
Oh, and Marianna, great moodboard. You'll have send us after pics if your sister-in-laws end up following your plan!

I love your site. I am sure you guys know about this already, but in case you didn't, here is the link to the Glidden paint giveaway. Thank you for all of the inspiraton on your site!

Thanks Kathryn! Yep, we already snagged a free quart of Celery Sticks.

Amber Butler Karson Hi -- I'm a huge fan of your site. My husband and I just bought our first place a couple of months ago - a 1908 row house on Capitol Hill in DC. I'm hoping you might have a good recommendation on where to purchase cool looking air-conditioning vent/register grilles. We have a few on the ceiling and a few on the floor. I feel like I could add some additional charm by getting ones with cool designs/patterns rather than the standards I can find at hardware stores. Any ideas? PS. If you love your Environsax bags, you must try RuMe's. They are my new favorite (although I still love Environsax too!) - I'm an event planner and discovered them while searching for alternatives to traditional gift bags for guests. They have two sizes. Love them!
This Young House at 5:07pm June 27
Thanks, Amber! Honestly, we've never looked beyond Lowes and Home Depot for vent covers. But a quick search uncovered a few interesting online options: http://www.archgrille.com/ - http://www.shop4classics.c om/ventcovers.asp -

Michelle L Hall How do I submit a request for a moodboard?
This Young House at 12:42pm June 26
Hey Michelle - just left this info for you over on the blog, but just in case here it is again: http://www.thisyounghouse. com/home-advice/
We're a smidge backed up at the moment though so we probably won't be able to take on any new mood board requests until after July 4th. Just wanted to give you a heads up!

No problem. I will just keep gleaning what I can from your website until then.
