Thanks for your potential help, fbtp (facebook tivo person), but I called again this morning, and got a CSR that actually knew what to do for me. While we were on the phone he sent the issue on to the channel manager people, and said if it's not fixed in five days, to call back.

The DirecTivo is dead. It is good for what it does, but it doesn't have the capability [processor, etc] to do what the new Tivos can do. If you can wait, rumor has it that DirecTV will be releasing a new Tivo based receiver in 2010, but I doubt they will enable all the nice stuff like downloading from Netflix or Video on Demand from Amazon.com ... Read Morealthough they might allow YouTube ;-) They never even enabled the Tivo Desktop on those things ... you had to hack them [which is what I did]. I finally retired mine after 7 years of use [and multiple hard drive replacement/upgrades]. Now .. I have the Tivo HD (although I use a 32" 4:3 tube TV).

I don't see in Tivo's DTV article, anyone know if we'll have to do a channel rescan for OTA ATSC channels? I know some in chicago are moving frequencies tomorrow; CBS, ABC and a couple more. Will Tivo automatically pickup channels on new frequencies or do we need to do something?

THANK YOU for giving us a VERY clear cut way of knowing if we will be affected. I STILL can't get a straight answer out of my cable company. The techs that have been out for problems say we need more boxes, the 800# says we're fine. Who to believe????

What other electronic component manufacturers have on-site service? TiVo isn't the cable company. If my DVD player, receiver, TV or iPod broke, I'd expect to have to take it somewhere or send it in for repair.
However, the thing that breaks most often in a TiVo is the hard drive and that can easily be fixed by yourself and a kit from http://www.weaknees.com/, or you can send it into them. I've used their kits twice for a series 1 and a series 2 and I was all done in 15 minutes.

I had a 40 hour and upgraded during a special tivo was running for the 80 hour dual tuner. If I go any higher I will never leave my house ;o)

AMC has found a creative solution to the tempest surrounding its decision to add two more minutes of commercial time to the upcoming season of "Mad Men," set to bow Aug. 16. The episodes will run a few minutes into the 11 p.m. hour to accommodate the extra blurbs.
