There is an emergency fundraising event for this Saturday May 17th at Q Cafe from 6-9pm. This event is open to all individuals and groups as a way to respond to the recent tragedy that hit Burma last Friday. Cyclone Nargis has left a rising count of 100,00 dead, over 1 million homeless, and tens of thousands missing. There will be a suggested donation at the door, live music, food, and items for sale. All proceeds will go to World Aid, a local 501(c)3 non-profit, that provides aid to groups and individuals in Burma and along the Thailand-Burma border. Burma Action Group (BAG), a UW student group, and Burma Roundtable, an umbrella group to BAG that raises awareness and provides medical and humanitarian aid for refugees, will be there to both support and fundraise with t-shirts.
