Let us know what you think of this story - do you agree with our points of view or have we got it wrong?

Hi guys! Another good podcast!

I actually haven't seen The Keys of Marinus (my viewership of black-and-white era Doctor Who is still a bit spotty), so all I can say about that is...it wasn't a dream!

I did want to say that I do appreciate the efforts you guys make to present a balanced view in the podcast - even in the stories which you don't rate highly overall, you always take care to point out places where an actor has given a good performance, or where there's a good bit of writing or a clever bit of production. I think that that's one of the things that distinguishes good criticism from a simple slag-fest.

Thanks Wendy. We do try.

The thing is, I've watched Doctor Who since I was 5 (so that makes it 30 years, before you ask). I love the show with a passion, I really, really do. I can sit and watch any of them and turn off my critical faculties and enjoy them warts and all if I want to.

However, like all normal people, I am not blind to its faults. The C2 podcast isn't supposed to be a love-fest or a nasty slagging off session. Its supposed to be the opinions of three friends and fans who, in our time, have all disagreed wildly with one another over what makes good Who - which is why we decided to do the show in the first place!

We've been criticised for being negative about it but we're also positive about lots of things. There is no such thing as the perfect TV show. Even The Caves of Androzani (which is almost as flawless a DW as you're ever likely to get) still has a crap dragon in it!

Doctor Who is the show I've grown up with and even though I can get quite harsh about some of its flaws and effusive in praise of its greatness - I will always cherish it for being a formative part of my life.

Hopefully people will appreciate that the next time I slag off Last of the Time Lords or Carole Ann Ford's screaming (although I doubt it)

Here endeth the lesson :)

P

ps. glad you're still enjoying the show!

I was disappointed as I couldn't get this story on Amazon rental. You did a great review and after your scores maybe I'm better off without it! As Wendy said you do a great job, even on episodes you're not so keen on.

I get the impression that the Keys to Time story arc was probably inspired by this. But done much better.

Looking forward to the next show.
