My kind of challenge! :-) I'm still not feeling well. Today is the day my health aide shows up. I've often wondered if having her come once a week is like having my own private Typhoid Mary. She works at all the BIG senior/disabled apartment complexes in nearby towns. Seems like a great population for spreading sickness.

OK girl pretty good one. But all nurses will br required to report to work & work the entire 7 days of the Pandemic & remain at work. No going home. So for all us nurses take your 72hr pack, car pack and any extra uniformes you have. It's going to be a lone week.

I am so glad we have electricity today!
I feel like I am more prepared for this challenge than the one yesterday.
This morning my husband got up while it was still dark and asked "can we turn on the lights today?" I told him we could do anything we wanted until I got online and found out what we could not do today. LOL

I haven't been on the computer much of late so I can not officially join in, and I am going out of town tomorrow. However I have read up on the website and here and it makes me realize that I am not prepared at all for an emergency. So when I get back I plan on really working on my emergency binder and 72 hour kit. If nothing else the challenge is letting me know what I need to do.

I was really hoping for a pandemic today :) This week my dayhome children have been coming at 6, which for me is really early. Yesterday Just about did us in :) Question: I have toilet paper in my storage....alot of it :) Is that usable or is it no toilet paper period. When I first started doing my food storage my MIL told me to get toilet paper and womens accessories...that in a crisis they would be like having gold :) And I think she's right.
I really think I'm prepared for this one :)

I am glad today is easier, but I still have to go to work. I take care of a 90 year old woman. I can still incorporate most of this challenge with her and then continue it with my family when I get home...and I have everything but paper towels...wootwoot! Still, I need to work on organizing my meds, sanitizers, etc. a little better.

OK I am liking this challenge alot better. Spending the whole day inside cuddling my "sick" kids. Works for me. Yesterday I was so unprepared I feel like my whole day was researching 72 hr kits, Disaster kits, and flashlights etc. I am going to take advantage of being with my "sick" ones today. :D
If all the toilet paper is gone from the bathroom does that mean we can go into our storage area and get our stash out?

Okay, this is going to be a good day. I don't mind staying home and cuddling my little" sick" ones either. We have plenty of toilet paper and paper towels in our storage room and I just stocked up on Lysol. My first aid kit is all stocked with what I need to treat fevers. And I have plenty of stuff to aid sick stomachs....pedialyte, Sprite, fruit juices, etc. I don't have the masks though. I need to find out where I can buy those.
I liked Lisa's comment about nurses though. I am a nurse also and she is right about us being called in if this was an emergency. Thankfully my house is stocked so my husband can take care of the family.
I had a question. If this was a true pandemic and we were quarantined would we be able to go out in our yards or is it strictly in our house? I ask that because we have a dog and he needs to go out a few times a day to do his business. We do not have a fenced in back yard and I have to go leash him up outside each time. Would that be possible in a true emergency?
This is Shaunda although I am posting under my husband's facebook account because I haven't started one for me yet.
Also, thanks for the give away. I was so excited when I read that I won this morning.

Well I agree I like this challenge alot better...however, i still had to go to work & I work at a university so if this was a real pandemic it would be closed. The NO toliet paper would be my only problem if I was at home...

JULIE: If you have paper towels and toilet paper stored you can use it... We only took away what you have already in your bathrooms and kitchen.

Our stake ordered masks for us and we purchased from them. However, we own an auto parts store and carry them for people who use automotive paint. You can check hardware stores, probably wal-Mart too. Go to the hardware sections to check. This is really easy for me-due to an outbreak of Salmonella last year in a town nearby, we have been ready.

JULIE: Oh and I would take quarantine over evacuation ANY day... Well almost any day. I must admit, I made a serious toilet paper stock up run earlier this week.... (is that cheating?!?!)

I am in pretty good shape for this disaster as I started last fall working on having supplies on hand for treatment of sick family with the flu. I just wanted to share this website with everyone and you share it too. Has a great booklet to print out and keep in our red binders. (which is where mine has been for months now ) The website is www.BirdFluManual.com.
You want to print out the "Good Home Treatment of Influenza" booklet on the main site page. It is a great handout!! I am an RN and still learned neat tricks I had not thought of for caring for the sick.
Am planning on digging thru my 2 shelves of sick supplies to check expiration dates and what needs to be added. Loving these challenges...made a list of things to put in my 72 hour kit last night. Luckily I have 90% already in the house just need to get a Rubbermaid container to hold them. After everyones worries about the food contained in the kit...I came up with some good (I hope) solutions to the starvation rations, lol.

In home quarantine is oh so much preferable to evacuation. I'm 101% ready for stay at home.

You can get bulk boxes of N95 masks at home improvement stores and you can get them at welding supply stores. Remember that surgical masks are pretty much useless, you need N95 masks. The masks have to fit properly to protect you, so you'll need different sizes for different family members and learn how to fit them right.

We do have power right?
All else is ok here, even if I take the fridge food away...
Have some masks, disinfec. gel in bathroom and kitchen plus I took one out of storage, for the kid room ....

Wow, I am home today with 3 sick kids anyway, administering advil and popsicles regularly according to doctor's orders. Today should be a breeze, I don't even have to pretend. In fact, while it might not be a pandemic, it seems to be an epidemic. 6 out of 19 students in my son's class were home sick yesterday, and it was only day 6 of school this year.

Oh, I guess I Should have posted my comment here! I just said this:
I actually have masks, and I have paper towels and extra TP stored, but probably only enough for 1 week for TP (I have been waiting to stock back up on TP until my next trip to Costco!) and 2-3 weeks for paper towels. So if we were quarantined for longer, at this point I would be out of luck.
Also, one thing I definitely need to get more of is ...baby tylenol. I only have a half bottle on hand, and with twins, that wouldn't last the day if they were both sick!!
Also, I bought 2 containers of foam hand sanitizer when my preemies came home from the hospital and still have one whole one left, and half of the other one. THis made me think that I will make sure to always have an extra bottle in the house this coming flu season. My babies are still very young, and with the Swine Flu threat, (AND RSV is still a threat to them, as well,) I want to keep them as protected as possible!

I have everything here-masks, plastic gloves, cleaning and disinfecting liquid and spray, pain medicine, popsicles, paper products. Probably need to check and make sure my stomach medicine is good. Made jello this morning and got out the canned chicken noodle soup. If this was a little later in the season, I would have homemade chicken noodle soup in freezer.
Yesterday was just a thinking day for me on how much I really need to do.

If hubby has a beard don't forget shaving supplies as a N95 over a beard is pretty worthless at filtering. You should talk to your Doctor about treating swine flu. Three ways it kills is dehydration (Pedialite & Gatorade) Congestion in lungs (Mucinex-D) and it leads to Pneumonia and that requires prescription drugs.
