Recently Air Asia has started adding an item called 'Convenience Fee' when one make booking with them. Air Asia introduced this fee stealthily - ie w/o any annoucement or notification.

Worse still, this fee is not shown anywhere in the fare calculation and ONLY appears on the FINAL page of your booking just before you confirmed your credit card or other payment details. I believe this is done intentionally so that for those who are not alert might missed this additional charge.

So folks, please be more careful when you book your tickets with Air Asia or Air Asia X as hidden charges might just crept up stealthily, eg they have also increased the luggage charge from RM5 to RM10 - also w/o any annoucement or notification.

Yes, you are right. AA is taking us for granted. Two days ago, I watched Dato Tony's interview on CCTV9. This morning, "convenience fee" popped up on my screen.

I wonder why did we get them to the No.1 airline of the year in the first place? So that they can charge us more for any reason they like?

Time to consider other low-cost airlines in the region and MAS.

hmmm... i hope there will be some explanations from Dato Tony's soon. Cause AA really changes my life a lot. I'm from SWK. Every long holiday or CNY, i will have the chances go back to my home. Thanks to AA cause MAS really cost me a lot. Don't mind to have all these ' convenience fee' but at least inform us first.

I used to dislike TigerAirways due to their ridiculous Tax&Service Fees as well as the very FUNNY convenience fee (damn... who got the convenience ?)

Now I begin to dislike AirAsia as well...

It is found that the convenience fee for flights from Singapore is 5 SGD per person...flight to KUL will cost me +17.8% more and I think I'll definitely opt to the others...

Wow, It's true about the Convenience Fee and it is at the end of the booking where you enter the credit card number. It will not shown at the middle of the booking as WK Liew said. and luggage charges are increased double from RM5 to RM10.

I don't know what are other hidden charges exists in their system. So who ever wish to do the booking, check the total amount ON EACH PAGE until you enter the credit card number.

Thank you for the information WK Liew.

One more thing I want to add, there are GoInsurance automatically added to the booking which I feel is not required. So you have to manually cancel it on the right panel on the FINAL booking page.

Agree. These budget airlines (AirAsia, Tiger and jetstar) will always find loopholes for the HIDDEN charges while marketing themselves as the cheapest airline in town. Oh well... it's called "marketing gimmicks"...

Now, we (the customers) not just have to pay the HIDDEN charges but also to accept the flights delay/cancellation etc... It's absurd...

I guess we have no choice but to bear all the grudges...

what's the purpose of "convenience fee"? could it be cancel out?

Hi Sharky, you can only cancel the GoInsure, you can't cancel the convinient fee which is RM5 per trip per pax. If you have 5 family member taking return journey, then it is RM5 x 2 x 5 = RM50.

'Convenience fee' is a fee charged by Air Asia due to the usage of credit cards to pay for ur ticket. If I'm not mistaken, Visa/Mastercard will charge a chunk of your purchase if you use credit cards... big shops or restaurants normally absorb this cost. I think Air Asia also begin to charge that on customers, so they won't be no longer absorb the credit card facility cost.

This is extremely ridiculus. We should all complain to the Hong Kong Consumer Council. If it needs extra charge due to the credit card payment, it should explain well before we commit to pay.

If this is the case, then all the bank can make the additional profit when we make bill paid on internet banking by credit card without any explanation.
Since it's not too much amount, usually Hong Kong people won't take it too serious and let it go. I know the profit margin for Air Asia might not be compared to some other airline company. However, this is not the right away to mislead customer. If there is any additional charge by credit card, someone would think about to pay by other methods.

So disapppointed with this airline.

i seriously think that air asia is in financial turbulance. this year itself, they deferred 24 A320 orders to 2014. their reason was that LCCT was too small. I guess the LCCT reason is not the only reason
