When you click on the search bar and press the down arrow, five names come up. What is special about these people?

Hi Sam - I'm sorry, I have no idea about this. I've seen it too. Can I ask you an incredibly stupid question, though? How did you post this discussion topic. I also can't seem to even do that! I have a question to post....can you tell me how you did it? There is no option to post a new topic that I can find, anywhere....thanks. Sorry I can't help with your question...Nancy

Thers a group on here somewhere called Facebook 5, some guy that reckons he knows his stuff about html code etc reckons its the 5 people that have been on your profile the most, which would be pretty mad.

Looking at the code, I don't think you can really tell what it is because the database reference isn't humanly legible, but it does look like it's possible to get more than 5 names with a little trickery. As a sidenote, all the Facebook PHP/javascript is easily accessed, which is nothing major since you don't know what a lot of the protocols mean (stuff that's handled server side), but with a bit of educated guesswork...

I suspect it's meant to be the people whose profiles you look at the most, but that they're referring to the wrong statistics (human coding error) and it's actually the 5 who look at yours most.
I think it's a mistake because Facebook wouldn't do something like that deliberately, it goes against their ethos of anonymous browsing, but it definitely refers to a statistic that they're keeping, and between the [limited] information that the coding context gives and the nature of the names (after cross-referencing with 7 of my friends), I'd say they're accidentally calling up the 5 people who browse you the most.

considering that fb just removed this feature, i'd say it might have been the people who search you the most...

its back, it is indeed very confusing, and a little strange. looking at mine, it now looks like the 5 people who you look at most....

Yep! You can also type a period and it does the same thing.

hmm it's not back for me. the period thing works, but that clearly displays my first 5 friends according to alphabetical order, which isn't the same as before.
