Did you attend our performance of Handel's "Messiah" on December 21 at the Count Basie Theatre? We'd love to know what you thought.

Donald A. in Jackson NJ sent us this email:
We have attended performances of the Messiah about 10 times, at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall and elsewhere. The performance last Sunday was as good or better than any of them. To be able to enjoy this wonderful music in the beautifully restored Count Basie Theater right in our community just added to the joy of the experience. Thank you.

Here are a few additional audience comments we've received via email:
Great concert!! We really enjoyed it. I think it is one of the best Messiahs I've ever heard. He obviously works you guys hard, but the results really show (including the standing up and sitting down).

I thought it was absolutely fabulous. I had sent a note after last year's performance saying I'd love to hear the Messiah in it's entirety and I am so thrilled you did. I can't say enough good things about the performance, orchestra, chorus and soloists. I do hope you make it a tradition.

Thanks so much. I took a new resident to our county. She was amazed at the wonderful music and the professional voices. We had a beautiful evening.

Glorious and quietly inspirational during a season in which people gorge on commercialism.

i thought the concert was excellent. the chorus, the orchestra, the soloists - all performances were great. it was an uplifting and enjoyable concert - i'm very glad i attended. i look forward to the remaining 2 concerts of the season.

Had a few "reviews" from the "8 and under" crowd -- the children in my family:
Cameron (7 years old): "I wish the 'lotta people' would have sung more!"
Sophia (8 years old - with Down Syndrome); "No, I won't to go to the bathroom -- I want to hear more singing."
Serafina (4 years old): "Mommy, I was conducting -- did you see me?" :)
I guess when you can keep little children engaged for such an extended period of time, it says something! :)

The Monmouth Civic Chorus is a delight to the senses. Thanks, and keep up the good work!

The Messiah was masterful...chorus, orchestra AND soloists. Even the stage setup was tastefully done, meaning it was not overdone. And the audience definitely showed its appreciation. One suggestion: would it be possible to give the expected duration of the concerts on the cards which are sent in advance? Making dinner reservations would be easier, and for telling babysitters when one will be home, especially of out-of-town friends whom one has talked into attending.
