4. Subject: Cornerstone Research Fall Recruiting
From: "Klots, Anya" <aklots@cornerstone.com>

Hi Jun,
I am a recent graduate of UC Berkeley with a double major in Math and
Economics and am currently working at Cornerstone Research. We will be
actively recruiting for the analyst position on campus this semester, and
we are hoping that you could distribute the attached information to
interested students from your association.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
ANALYST ROLE
Cornerstone Research (www.cornerstone.com) is a consulting firm
specializing in the analysis of complex financial, economic, accounting,
and marketing issues. Our staff and nationally prominent academic and
industry experts provide clients with state-of-the-art analysis that has
earned us a reputation for excellence and effectiveness. Attorneys often
choose to rely on our work as the foundation for testimony in complex
business litigation.
In recent years, Cornerstone Research has grown quickly to become one of
the nation?s leading finance and economics consulting firms with more than
350 full-time staff members across our six offices and an extensive
network of experts. Our culture of growth and collegiality provides a
dynamic work environment.
We attribute our success to a unique combination of resources: A creative
and energetic staff, cutting-edge technology and research, and our
?partnership? with academic and industry experts. Our consultants employ
innovative problem solving approaches and achieve unparalleled analytic
depth. Working with faculty experts from leading business schools,
economics departments and law schools keeps us at the forefront of
academic research, while industry experts share their practical experience
and business acumen.
Our diverse experience allows us to provide clients with a unique breadth
of perspective and expertise. For example, in securities projects we
analyze stock prices, derivatives and debt instruments. We assess
high-profile mergers and acquisitions, insider trading allegations and
share repurchase transactions. In antitrust and intellectual property
cases we look at industry structure, the nature of purchase decisions and
the commercial value of innovation and technology.
ANALYST ROLE
Analysts play a central role at Cornerstone Research. They work in case
teams which range in size but typically include an academic or industry
expert, senior consultants, and analysts. Within a case team, the analyst
makes important contributions during all phases of a project?from
developing case strategy, to conducting analyses, to preparing experts for
testimony. Case work has both quantitative and qualitative elements,
involving such key responsibilities as conducting financial and economic
modeling, examining market and industry behavior, and presenting findings
to colleagues and clients.
Our small size provides the analyst opportunities to interact closely not
only with senior consultants and academic experts, but also with clients.
Analysts participate actively in the development of Cornerstone Research?s
recruiting, training, systems strategies, and in-house software.
ANALYST DEVELOPMENT
Cornerstone Research believes that strong skills develop best through
practical experience. We begin with a training program to introduce the
analyst to sophisticated analytical and statistical techniques used
throughout our practice. Following training, analysts join case teams
where they have immediate impact while continuing to learn new skills.
Analysts gain tremendous learning and development opportunities by working
closely with experts, clients, and senior consultants, and through our
ongoing training programs.
Cornerstone Research values the professional growth of analysts and
recognizes their contributions to clients and the firm. Consequently, the
analyst role has evolved to a position typically involving a stay of three
or more years. The analytical depth of our assignments, the breadth of
industry exposure, and experience working in case teams offer outstanding
preparation for analysts applying to top graduate programs in business,
economics, and law, and for ensuing careers in consulting, finance,
industry, and academia. A number of our senior consultants started their
careers as analysts with our firm.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
To fill the limited number of analyst positions, Cornerstone Research
seeks well-rounded, enthusiastic individuals who have demonstrated
excellent academic performance. We encourage candidates with strong
analytical backgrounds, computer skills, and interest in business and
economics to apply.
We welcome you to meet current analysts and learn more about this unique
intersection of economics, business and law at the following events:
Berkeley Career Fair: Wednesday, Sept. 12th, 2007, 10am-4pm [MLK
Student Union - Pauley Ballroom]
Berkeley Info Session: Monday, Sept. 17th, 2007, 7pm-9pm [Seaborg
Room, Faculty Club]

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Please include the following items when applying through CalJobs: 1) a
cover letter (indicating your top three geographic preferences among the
following offices: Menlo Park, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, New
York and Washington, DC), 2) a r?sum? and 3) a copy of your transcript.
Applications will only be considered once all these materials have been
received.

Thanks,
Anya

Quantitative Management Associate Program Rotation Examples
Quantitative Finance; Atlanta, GA
Quantitative Finance works to determine and manage risks associated with Bank of America’s mortgage portfolio. QF is
responsible for ongoing research and management for many of the bank’s quantitative models. Their research and analysis are
used throughout the bank, particularly in Balance Sheet Management and Portfolio Analysis. This rotation requires some
programming ability as well as a strong background in mathematics.
CMG Risk Management; Charlotte, NC & Boston, MA
CMG Risk works with both CMG Portfolio Managers and the Private Bank to determine and manage associated risk. This group
is responsible for assessing the risk-reward balance of CMG funds and ensuring that appropriate controls and measures are in
place. The QMAP assists risk managers with developing the tools needed to effectively manage risk in all lines, including Active
Equity, Money Markets, Fixed Income, and Operational Risk.
Global Portfolio Strategies; Charlotte, NC
This team’s primary role is to formulate and manage credit derivative hedging strategy for the bank’s non-FVO commercial
portfolio. Following an educational ramp-up, the QMAP becomes an integral member of the team, actively involved in complex
optimization model runs and hedging strategy development
GLP Quantitative Middle Office; Chicago, IL
The QMO is primarily the Global Rates business within GLP. The core GMO functions are structured trades & non-standard
transactions analysis, pricing model testing and implementations, and analytical tool development and project management. The
QMAP in this role will have the opportunity to learn interest rate derivatives, from a risk and modeling perspective, and will be
actively involved in a credit valuation adjustment project learning how credit exposure and risk is modeled.
Corporate Audit; Charlotte, NC
The Model Validation Group of Corporate Audit is responsible for performing model validations in all segments of the bank
where critical models are in use (GCIB, GCSBB, Corporate Treasury). Audit provides a “Line of Defense” beyond general risk
management and provides risk governance at a bank and model level. A QMAP in this rotation has a degree of flexibility to
focus on particular types of models or on business areas of interest to the QMAP. This role provides the QMAP exposure to a
variety of departments throughout the bank.
Balance Sheet Management (BSM); Charlotte, NC
BSM is responsible for forecasting net interest income and market value, managing interest rate risk, and producing various
economic analyses A QMAP in Balance Sheet Management typically works in the Research & Development group of the
division. The QMAP will have the opportunity to support ongoing efforts to improve the asset/liability modeling framework.
Through this the Associate will learn yield curve construction and simulation, derivatives pricing, and risk analytics.
Operational Risk; Charlotte, NC & San Francisco, CA
The Operational Risk Capital Group creates loss distributions to determine the amount of capital the bank must hold for
operational risk events. This is achieved through statistical analysis and modeling of historical loss events. The QMAP is
involved in the development of quantitative models to measure risk and calculate required capital for the bank’s entire retail loan
portfolio.
Enterprise Credit Risk, Economic & Quantitative Research; Charlotte, NC
In the Economic & Quantitative Group, the QMAP will proactively and reactively provide senior management and business
partners with timely and relevant economic research. The QMAP will also quantitatively analyze the significance of various
stresses in the economy to the bank’s consumer credit portfolios.
Global Quantitative Risk; Charlotte, NC
The Global Quantitative Risk group focuses on quantitative innovation to develop state of the art modeling to create
sophisticated credit risk and reward models. The rotation will provide the opportunity to work with “heavy” quants on statistical
modeling, optimization, computational finance, and data mining/machine learning applied to credit risk management including
linkage to macroeconomic factors and their impacts to our portfolio.
