Hello Friends,

The “Should I Stay or Should I Go…Green” seminar was a huge success! It was a great learning experience for all the attendees.

For those of you who could not attend the seminar, here is a brief summary –

CMHC (www.everythingyouneed.ca) – Jenny Bartlet from CMHC provided us with statistics of new and re-sale housing market in the Kitchener-Waterloo market. The good news here was that the Kitchener-Waterloo region is not seeing a huge fall in the prices as compared to the national average. Also, she enlightened the audience about CMHC’s funds available for purchase and refinance for home renovations and benefits for energy-efficient homes.

REEP (www.reepwaterlooregion.ca) - Julian van Mossel-Forrester from Residential Energy Efficiency Project (REEP) spoke about different programs they have to offer energy efficient homes and businesses. Also, he informed everyone about the different tax-rebates available for homeowners when they choose to eco-renovate their homes.

RE/MAX (www.angelabaas.com) - Angela Baas from RE/MAX Twin City highlighted the 10% gauge for homeowners to use when considering whether to renovate their home or to move. If the cost of renovating your home is more than 10% of the home's current value, then you should consider moving instead of renovating the home. This is based on the fact that the cost of moving is typically estimated to be 10% of the home's current value. She also identified the remodeling projects which have the highest payback potential.

Rooms in Bloom (www.roomsinbloom.org.) – Rooms in Bloom is a professional home-staging and re-design company in Kitchener-Waterloo region. Alana Merritt & Heather Cook enlightened everyone about the differences between home staging and interior decorating. They also highlighted the advantages of home staging and provided statistics on how quickly houses sell when they are staged.

Carson Dunlop (www.carsondunlop.com) – Kevin Green from Carson Dunlop informed everyone the importance of home inspection and why it is a good idea for sellers as well as buyers to get their home inspected. Also, he informed everybody that whether it is a new or an old house it is always better to have the house inspected before you purchase it.

YNCU (www.yncu.com) – Sharon Van Der Gulik and Penny Brown spoke about the different financing options available from YNCU. Also, the audience was informed about the importance of budget when you consider buying, selling or renovating one’s house. The new federal budget was discussed and how you can take advantage of Home Renovation Tax Credit and benefits for first-time homebuyers.

This is just a summary of the whole presentation. If you are looking for some details from any of the above presenters please feel free to contact us or leave your questions here.

Have a great weekend!
