I'm disappointed in you. I don't think you read all 440 pages of the legislation. I don't know whether you saw the Treasury's reassurance to financial institutions that the restrictions on excess executive compensation were easy to evade -- or whether you just ignored it. Tegardless of its merits, I have no idea why a rum tax payment to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands was included in a bill to address the credit crisis. And so on.
You got so much feedback on this that phone lines were jammed and you had to limit constituents emails. Shouldn't that tell you something?
I appreciate the importance of acting quickly. You had over a week to craft a better bailout bill -- or a solution that didn't involved a bailout. Instead, you gave in to political pressure and supported a bill that most of you (and most economists) agreed is bad, and may not even address the crisis.
I'm holding you accountable for this ... and I expect better from you in the future.
