Myself and several other councilors have drafted and submitted a motion requiring a formal apology to the; Carleton Community, the Canadian Public, and all of those who have been affected in any way by this disease. Furthermore the motion requires publication of the apology in the news media.

Adam,
You are the other Science rep aside from Donny, right? How many students do you think are in Science here at Carleton. People want to know how many signatures it would take to get Donny out.

Good for you.
Please don't let them get away with "We're sorry we upset you". They need to accept that they were fundamentally negligent in their responsibilities to the student body.

Is it really so hard for them to say "Sorry, we fucked up big time, and we are solely responsible for our actions. We voted yes to a motion that discriminated against people based on fallacious generalizations, and we acknowledge that this was the wrong course of action. Because of our actions, Carleton has suffered a black eye and we would like the public to know that Carleton University does not deserve any animosity as the source of this is us and us alone."
There, that will solve EVERYTHING.
There, that will solve EVERYTHING.

what science is Donny studying anyhow? how exactly did he get accepted into university with such shoddy research skills and poor critical thinking? god help society if he ever intends to apply to medicine although with international press like this, I think the chances of acceptance anywhere after this debacle are slim/none.

Adam,
It should be broadcast on national television and radio, like the president of Maple Leaf Foods did during the lysteria outbreak. And it has to apologize directly to all stakeholders, instead of just being the "sorry you're upset" stuff that has been airing to this point. Resignations need to be included.

apologies and resignations are in order i think. Brittany should go for not effectively handling the crisis and Donnie to take responsibility for tabling the offensive motion.

I think Donnie, Smyth, and the rest of the executive of CUSA should get the axe. THERE IS NO WAY that a motion would pass if this was the other way around with women being discriminated against.
Example:
Where as victims of sexual assault need access to centres with information and direction we are going to close it down due to the fact mostly women use them.
THIS WOULD NEVER FLY... That person would be tarred and feathered by ALL of CUSA and it's cronies, yet it was okay because it involved white men.

I totally agree - It does require a formal sincere, and at this point very national public apology on the part of the organization, and the council. Even those of us who were not present(councillors) (would have been if the agenda had been served out with proper 48 hour notice- A motion of recall has been issued on the Vice President Internal Affairs over this issue., for something this important, but as usual there was no agenda issued untill the actual meeting.) bear some degree of responsibility for this. (I did not have a proxy - they are difficult to find as science students are often busy - I booked 4 proxies in the week leading up to the meeting and had 4 cancel on me.)
That said from here, especially those of us who were outright absent (quite a few, no proxy etc) have a responsibility to work to see that this situation is rectified in a timely way.
Yes I am the other science councilor. You need 1/20th the students represented in a faculty to bring forward a recall. I have moved a motion of recall which would require 2/3rds of council to pass. (this will give them the opportunity to show where they truely stand) Honestly though, It probably will not pass. I would be willing to bet that a large number of Donnies colaborators at the council table will line up behind him.
It is also my plan to assist in collecting the necessary signatures to force the issue to be brought to a vote of the students. 300 signatures and you would be safe. Just stand in the lobby of steacie building, or do a class talk to Biol 1003, and Chem 1000. If you need the times I can get them for you - perhaps even come with your group to collect them.

In all this talk of resignations I will add one more thing to the mix that I have yet to see. (Although there have been many posts so it may have come up already.)
These individuals also sit on the University Board of Governors and/or the Senate. So they are also at higher levels than the CUSA council table. Scary.

I totally agree that heads must roll. As I am the other Science councillor attending to Donnie's departure from council is my top priority. He has untill the meeting to resign or face the music. (By the way if you all show up at the meeting you can speak to the motion for the recall.)

The motion to recall Carlos was submitted to council this afternoon. - To Carlos himself interestingly. 1500 signatures would do the trick in his or any of the executives cases should the motion fail to pass council. I have yet to see what other councilors have moved - However as stated I have moved on Donnie, and Carlos.

Their was a meeting held today?
CUSA needs to improve their communications with the student body.

No - the meeting is to be held on December 1st. Motions are submitted to Carlos 48 hours before hand so the organization can issue proper public notice.

Hi everyone,
I was at Herzberg today and spoke to members of the Science faculty. 1/20 of the Undergrad full time science population is 90 people. Only 90 signatures, thats nothing. That is the number needed to force Donnies resignation. For Brittany Smythe, it is about 1250. These numbers were collected for everyone who wants resignations. If monday, they do not resign, the petitions can start. Any questions or concerns feel free to email me I will help the best I can.

Start now... they won't resign on their own. I currently attend Carleton and am an Alumni, although I am rarely on campus so if there is a petition to be signed... someone let me know where/when I can sign it and I will come to campus!

Hi everyone,
I'm on your side, I agree with you, everyone is making valid points. However, there is a lot of stuff to consider which is what the group I work with is doing now. I am not the only to be thinking this, lots of people want to get involved, which is awesome. The important thing is the Rally tomorow which will be covered by the media to show that we do care about Shinerama and that decision did not reflect us.

Adam are you crazy? It will happen don't doubt nothing. Come Dec 1st if he doesn't resign I am going to call all of the Science students myself. The kid should not play with fire with this one. With you Adam you better start talking to your constituents within Science. Might be looking at a vacant position for Science on council so if I were you I would be getting ready for a By-Election. Simple as that!
