The most recent American Religious Identification Survey as well other polling data reflect three major trends:
1) The number of people who identify themselves as “Christians” has fallen;
2) The percentage of people who do not identify with any faith has increased, and at the same time there is a general decline in those who think “religion” is the answer to social problems; and
3) The number of people who describe themselves as “atheist” or “agnostic” has quadrupled since 1990 to 3.6 million.
Are any of these trends cause for concern?

I will be candid. I think the Church is failing people but - NOT GOD. The two are being confused. I think there is a big difference between "Religion" and "Faith". Religion - man made. Faith - Relationship with the Creator.
The religious right has chased off people. People feel isolated, insulated, and just plain scared. We live in a time where individuals feel voiceless, and impotent. People have identified certain personalities with Christianity. I believe those "personalities" don't always speak well forthe Christian Faith and relationship with God. - sorry you have me on my soap box. LOL... I am a very, politically liberal, pentecostal - so go figure. I am a prodigal and have experienced a very personal touch by God so I get all steamed up. Sorry. Have some of the same questions you have.
Go with God ;-)
