Apple released the iPhone 3.0 OS, and added several key features to improve manageability of the platform. Here are 5 ActiveSync policies that Apple supports that will make your life as administrator easier:

1) Ability to disable camera. Any of you working in government agencies or working for firms with strict security policies? Many of our customers in this space require the ability to disable cameras. These customers want to make sure folks don't use their cameras to take pictures of sensitive documents-- prior to this release, iPhones were a non-starter for these folks.

2) Ability to enforce complex passwords. Here's another security feature for organizations with users who may have sensitive information on their iPhone. Password can be configured to require numbers and characters. No more 'hello' passwords.

3) International roaming restrictions. Are your enterprise mobile bills spiraling out of control? This policy will enable manual syncing when a user is roaming. Reducing/ eliminating automated refreshes when user's are roaming can a company a lot of money.

4) Set policy for device inactivity. If you've ever lost your device, you've probably felt the fear of a stranger reading your corporate email/ accessing your corporate address book. With this policy, your device will automatically lock itself if it hasn't been used for a period of time.

5) Wipe device after numerous failed logon attempts. Ok, you've lost your device, but fortunately you have #2 & 4 in place. With enough time, a hacker could probably figure out your password and break into your phone. With this feature, you can configure your device to wipe itself clean after a specified number of failed logon attempts.
