As the original drummer for Santana, Michael – at age nineteen – was the youngest performer at Woodstock. Michael’s recording credits include the masters of popular and avant-garde music – Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones, George Harrison, Pete Townsend, Steve Winwood, Police guitarist Andy Summers, film composer Mark Isham, and such musical luminaries as John Mclaughlin, Stomu Yamash’ta, Klaus Schulze, Freddie Hubbard, Jaco Pastorius, Wayne Horvitz, Bill Frisell, Zakir Hussain, Airto Moriera and Amon Tobin. Michael continues to strive for innovative approaches to percussion-based music, and records with both renowned and emerging artists (Skerik, Jack DeJohnette, Zakir Hussain, Reggie Watts), in addition to his own band, Spellbinder. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 and in 2005, Michael received the Guitar Center’s first annual “Lifetime Achievement Award.” "I owe Michael a lot; He's the one who turned me onto John Coltrane and Miles Davis. I just wanted to play blues until Michael came. He opened my eyes and my ears and my heart to a lot of things. Some drummers only have chops, but Michael Shrieve has vision. Michael is like a box of crayons; he has all the colors." -Carlos Santana Danny Godinez: Guitars (www.myspace.com…) Danny is a unique guitarist, drawing from his facilities on the acoustic as well as the electric guitar. He is involved in a myriad of projects in the Seattle area. He is obviously at home and in touch with the Hammond, knowing the instrument and it's history so well as to make it sing in any situation. Brittany Shane, The Anthony Monaco Band, Clara's Affair

513 N. 36th St. #E Seattle, WA 98103 Tuesday, December 1, 2009, 8pm Bay Area-based songwriter Brittany Shane is set to release her new CD Have Heart Live Young on Painted Lady Records in September 2009. The Wisconsin-born and raised songstress has been on a spell of writing and playing over the past decade or so, and the fruits of her labor are obviously starting to pay off. Brittany’s sonic offspring, having won the good graces of a laundry list of top notch music makers, including Grammy-nominated mix engineer, Joe Chiccarelli, producer Zack Smith (founding member of the ‘80s group Scandal), Shane, offers the sort of timeless songwriting on par with Brit cult group the Sundays, the Bangles, Beth Orton or Mazzy Star. Perhaps it’s her down-to-earth Midwestern charm and the fine sense of humor conveyed in her songs that make you wish you could step through your speakers and into a bar, where she’ll be waiting with a beer. Sure, she makes pure pop for now people, but the tunes reach out in all different directions: “One Station” has a melody that doesn’t leave your head long after its 3 ½ minutes are up; “Over Your Shoulder,” conjures a sensuous urgency we’ve heard more recently from bands like Metric; and the title track, “Have Heart Live Young,” is a foot-tapper on par with the Bangles, circa “Different Light,” shimmering backing vocals n’ all. But it’s Brittany’s every-girl that comes shining through in the end. We get the impression that punk rock kids, soccer moms and convicted felons can embrace the stuff with equal devotion, and we say that in a good way, of course. www.myspace.com… Everyone who hears Anthony Monaco’s music says the same thing: “I can’t believe this isn’t on the radio.” Spending his time writing, arranging, engineering, producing, directing, and singing his music has left little time left over for promotion. Now its time to change that. A true lover of music but also a staunch music critic, Anthony Monaco writes the music he wishes he heard on the radio. Enjoying styles from Metal, to Pop, to big band Swing, you can hear all of these influences in his creations. There is an intriguing range of styles in his songs. From the poppy acoustic up-tempo “Gimme Luv” to the more tempered and thoughtful “Impressions” to the hard-edge of “Long Way To Go”, Anthony Monaco covers a range of emotions. “I tried to just write in one genre of music People would see a show and listen to demos and say: ‘just write more songs like this one’” – I can’t do it. Songs are whole worlds unto themselves. If I’m angry, its hard for me to write with an acoustic guitar. I want an electric guitar with the distortion cranked up to 11. If I’m happy, I want bouncing drums. I have to be true to the emotion I’m feeling.” www.myspace.com… Read more >> |
