Forty years (and one day) after his iconic performance with SANTANA at Woodstock, ToST is honored to present MICHAEL SHRIEVE and his band SPELLBINDER for an evening of fantastic music, for FREE! (And yes, that is Michael in the bottom right of the Time Magazine cover to the right...)

If you like, come early, as we will ...be watching the 8pm showing of the VH1/History Channel documentary "Woodstock: Now & Then," directed by Academy Award-winner Barbara Kopple and executive produced by Michael Lang, the original organizer of Woodstock. For this film, Pearl Jam's Matt Cameron interviewed Michael Shrieve earlier this year, right here at ToST, so join us to watch its History Channel premiere!

"I owe Michael a lot; He's the one who turned me onto John Coltrane and Miles Davis. I just wanted to play blues until Michael came. He opened my eyes and my ears and my heart to a lot of things. Some drummers only have chops, but Michael Shrieve has vision. Michael is like a box of crayons; he has all the colors." -- Carlos Santana

Michael Shrieve: Drums (http://www.michaelshrieve.com/)

Over the course of his eminent career, Michael has written, produced and played on albums that have sold millions of copies worldwide. As the original drummer for Santana, Michael – at age nineteen – was the youngest performer at Woodstock. Michael’s recording credits include the masters of popular and avant-garde music – Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones, George Harrison, Pete Townsend, Steve Winwood, Police guitarist Andy Summers, film composer Mark Isham, and such musical luminaries as John Mclaughlin, Stomu Yamash’ta, Klaus Schulze, Freddie Hubbard, Jaco Pastorius, Wayne Horvitz, Bill Frisell, Zakir Hussain, Airto Moriera and Amon Tobin. Michael continues to strive for innovative approaches to percussion-based music, and records with both renowned and emerging artists (Skerik, Jack DeJohnette, Zakir Hussain, Reggie Watts), in addition to his own band, Spellbinder. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 and in 2005, Michael received the Guitar Center’s first annual “Lifetime Achievement Award.”

Danny Godinez: Guitars (http://www.myspace.com/godanny)

Danny is a unique guitarist, drawing from his facilities on the acoustic as well as the electric guitar. He is involved in a myriad of projects in the Seattle area. Aside from performing his live solo show, he also performs with reknown native artist Pura Fe, and teaches guitar privately and for rockschool.org. He enjoys playing tennis, good conversation, and is a Gemini. He is looking forward to giving birth to his first full length solo record in 2008. www.whoisdanny.com

Joe Doria: Hammond B3 (http://www.myspace.com/joedoria)

Joe learned from the Hammond greats of past and present with emphasis on his favorite - Jimmy Smith. He is obviously at home and in touch with the Hammond, knowing the instrument and it's history so well as to make it sing in any situation. Never limiting himself to one style, he's always trying new projects and can be heard on many cd's and playing live in projects such as: Skerik's Syncopated Taint Septet (on Ropeadope and Hyena records), Arisawkadoria, DOS(e), Skip Heller (Hyena Records), Chewy , Gutterball, Swampdweller, Dawud Raamah, The Living Daylights, Atma, The Stone Crazy Blues Band, and his current projects, "The Joe Doria Trio" and "Last Mile".

Farko Dosumov: Bass (http://www.myspace.com/farkodosumov)

Farko Rustamovich Dosumov was born in the city of Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. He started to take lessons on the classical guitar at age of 10. Switched to a bass at 14 years old. He moved to the United States when he was 20 and decided to go to Cornish College of the Arts located in Seattle Washington. Since then, he has played with many artists and groups such as The Danny Godinez Band, Jazzukha, Flowmotion, Arturo Rodrigez, Last Mile and the Owl'n'Thistle Band to name a few.

John Fricke: Trumpet (http://www.myspace.com/johncfricke)

After 14 years of school and touring, John landed back in Seattle in Feb of 2002. Playing/recording with the likes of Douglas Cameron, Flowmotion, James Whiton, Four Finger Five and Danny Godinez. Since his return, John has developed an eerie muted Trumpet sound all his own.

The Reptet's instrumentation consists of drums, bass and four horns. These six multi-instrumentalists have an expansive approach to their music, performing original compositions that incorporate reggae, rock, ska, punk, modern classical, avant garde, eastern European folk influences and more. Their internationally acclaimed 2006 release, "Do This!" (Monktail Records) was an Independent Music Awards finalist for Best Jazz Record of the Year and was chosen Top Jazz CD of the year by Jazziz magazine's Alex Gelfand. They also won two Earshot Golden Ear Awards (celebrating the best of northwest jazz), including Best 'Outside' Jazz Group and Best Performance of the year (as part of the Monktail Raymond Scott Project). In 2007, Reptet criss-crossed the United States exhaustively touring in support of "Do This!". Their third CD, “Chicken or Beef?” was released in the summer of 2008 and the initial buzz has been overwhelming. In fact, the 8th Annual Independent Music Awards named it a finalist for Jazz Record of the Year. Their live performances have been described as, “arresting, compelling and just plain cranked-up!” with stage shows evolving into transformative performance art pieces using costumes, story telling, dance routines and absurdist humor. Reptet have proven themselves to be a unique and utterly enthralling multi-leveled experience leaving audiences wanting more.

It is time to change your conception of Seattle based music. For over a decade, a new style of music has been growing and evolving in the clubs of this famous West Coast city. Marmalade embodies this new music we call Groove.

Born out of the music scene in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, Leisure Sound started out small calling themselves "Hebro's" (Orin Henselyn and David Levin, featuring vocals from the lovely Sara Rose) performing at venues such as the Last Supper Club (pioneer square) and Columbia City Theater. Then in early 2008, under... a new name, LS filled out the bandstand with Mario Cruz the song writing expert, Anthony Krause who moved from Oahu to bring in some da kine ladat island vibe, Areia Pytel the man with state-of-the-art futuristic guitar licks, and Dan "2.0" Weiss who plays the drums with serious schmaltz! The group linked up just in recent with two crowd favorites, horn addition Dana Hench or "Nervous D" on bone and vocalist Katrina Wible from the well acclaimed Soul Kata ; who has added tremendously to compliment the groups rich lyrical content.
