Marisel Reauthorization of the T-Bill will be a rough & tumble affair. Those of us interested in active transportation will need to armed with facts the clearly detail the benefits of getting the nation moving on its feet. PolicyLink, a community development policy think tank, published an excellent report that outlines the... health benefits of well-reasoned transportation policy. Zenzi

Zenzi Austin TX recently installed sharrows (see attached). I hadn't thought they would make a difference, but I am really impressed (and cheap too)! They tell drivers that bicycles belong on the streets. I now ride on busy streets that I felt were more dangerous before.

A shared-lane marking or sharrow[1] is a roadway marking installed at locations in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. This marking is used within travel lanes shared by bicyclists and other vehicles.
Matthew Jones

Matthew Jones Help us here in Milwaukee. Our county executive, Scott Walker, just closed our live operator ASSISTED call center for Mke Cty Transit System (MCTS). It served over 370,000 people last year. It is a shameful act.
Next year, if an RTA is not established, MCTS will cut service by 30%.

Katie, you guys should definitely join the online discussion on Monday about public transportation and conservative thought. Right up your alley. Feel free to invite people you know to join.

True competition among modes would be a great start. If you're a state official, and you can get 90% of a highway project covered by the feds, or 45% of a transit project covered, which would you be more likely to choose?

Marisel RESEARCH SHOWS POSITIVE IMPACT OF TRANSPORTATION POLICY ON HEALTH: Current healthcare reform legistation will do little to slow the cost of healthcare. Dear Ii:
There is solution to ugliness and wasteful use of tax dollars. Local watchdog groups can & have taken on those unwanted companions to public works projects.
But the idea is to encourage/entice folks into exercising. I have been physically active all my life. I feel odd if I am not working out regularly. That is not the case for ... See Moremost people in America. Yes...folks need to be encouraged into incidental exercise.
Most people want to be healthy & exercise is essential to that goal. That takes planning, good design, public input, & yes...people to build and clear the scape if need.
If we don't get people moving as just part of their daily routine, healthcare costs related to obesity (heart disease, diabetes, stroks) will make expansion of health care coverage to the uninsured a dream. There is research to support appealing physical surroundings and increased incliination to walk or bike. Will post a few articles later on this week.
