The typical U.S. household pays $500 a year in bank and credit card fees and interest, more than half of which could be avoided through better planning, according to new research by Victor Stango, an assistant professor of management at UC Davis.

I pay 0 credit card fees. Pay my balance in full every month. I even had Nordstrom drop my APR to prime+2.99% a few days ago. Almost 100k in credit limits with 1-2% usage at anytime. My score is going to be in the 800s soon. I started out messing up my credit in college. I owe it all to Fat Wallet's finance forum and Credit Board's forums.
